MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL BANKS
Dear Eagles,
As we head into our week of standardized testing, I want to take a moment to encourage every student to approach this opportunity with confidence and determination.
Student attendance is essential every day - especially each day of testing. All students must be in the building by 8am to start on time. We encourage students to arrive by 7:30 so they have time to grab breakfast from the cafeteria before testing begins. Please ensure that every student gets a good night’s rest, arrives prepared, and gives their very best effort. Eagles, if you reach the end of the allotted time with unanswered questions - ANSWER IT. Remember, there’s no penalty for answering questions you’re unsure about, so give every question your best try.
Tomorrow, students in grades 7–11 will receive a personalized email with important details about their specific assessments. Please be sure to read it carefully and follow the guidance closely.
Our entire team — administrators, teachers, and educational support staff — believe deeply in our students. We know you are ready for this challenge, and we trust that you will give it your all. We’ve seen your hard work, and we know you are ready to rise to the challenge. Trust yourselves and know that we are cheering you on every step of the way.
Let’s go, Eagles — show your pride and soar!
Onward and upward,
~Principal Banks

Community Partner Spotlight
We are super grateful for Mrs. Ruth Edwards, CEO of A.L.I.C.E! Lindblom hosted Ruth and friends as they conducted a give away of prom dresses and shoes. More information about her company can be found here.
We are equally appreciative of our partnership with DJ Hot Rod with the Pep Rally Take Over! DJ Hot Rod and his special guests performed at our last pep rally of the school year. Each pep rally has been a blast and DJ Hot Rod was an instrumental contributor to that.

BE EMPOWERED
Mikva Summer Programs
For students who will be 16+ by July 1: Do you know a young person who is passionate about issues like education, health, juvenile justice, and safety? Who believes that young people need a seat at the table when decisions are being made that impact them? Young people in Chicago 16 years or older (by July 1) can apply to join one of Mikva's Citywide Youth Councils this summer. This is a paid internship for 20 hours/week for 6 weeks. Interns will make their voice heard by working with a team to create and propose solutions for top issues to key decision makers in city government.
For rising seniors: Youth Organizing Academy is a PAID six-week program that runs downtown Monday-Thursday. Youth learn skills they can use to organize for change.
For graduating seniors: Mikva Summer Fellows is a PAID 6-week internship in your community at an elected officials office. The internship also includes weekly career development workshops.

Arabic Language Village at Concordia
We would love for you to send us your students this coming summer to spend one, two, or four weeks learning Arabic and having an incredible summer camp experience in the beautiful natural setting in the woods at Concordia! Open to children ages 8-18. Students entering grades 9-12 can stay for two or four weeks and earn up to a year of high school credit!
Our camp is designed for learners of all proficiency levels, so whether your students are complete beginners or advanced speakers, they are welcome to join! Our 2025 Arabic camp will be held in July and August. To help families access our programs, scholarship opportunities are available.
In summer 2025, we are also offering an Arabic Family Week, a unique opportunity for entire families to participate in language and cultural learning together! This program is scheduled for August 18-23 and is open to participants of all ages and proficiency levels.
Program Highlights:
- Immersive Language Learning: Learners in our programs become citizens of a simulated language “Village,” an immersive play world which evokes the look, feel, sounds, and tastes of communities where Arabic is spoken. This environment provides the ideal setting for students to be truly immersed in both the target language and the cultures surrounding it.
- Cultural Activities: Each day at Al-Wāḥa, the Arabic Language Village, is filled with cultural activities from the places where Arabic is spoken. These might include baking delicious fatayer (savory pastries) and baqlawa, learning traditional folk dances like dabke, and learning about hospitality while drinking Moroccan mint tea in a traditional Bedouin tent.
- Global Staff: Our program highlights the language and cultural backgrounds of our diverse native and non-native speaker staff members from across the Arabic-speaking world, while emphasizing Modern Standard Arabic.
It’s our mission to inspire courageous global citizens, and we hope your students will be among them.
A flyer for our Arabic camp program is attached. If you have any questions or would like to discuss further, please feel free to reach out directly at lthibout@cord.edu. We would love to see more students connected with your school at Concordia Language Villages!
