Weekly Highlights
Stockings for Joy 🧦
Ava Guntzviller is brightening the holiday season for children across Oakland County with Stockings for Joy. This year marks the seventh year the Walled Lake Northern senior sewed and stuffed stockings for children in foster care.
Stockings for Joy is a family tradition that began 21 years ago lead by her Aunt Barb. Last winter, Guntzviller took over the project for Oakland County and donated 350 stockings.
“Carrying on this family tradition means so much to me,” said Guntzviller. “I grew up watching how much love and effort went into this project.”
“Being able to assist and now leading, a vision of passing on joy with this success is truly special,” added Guntzviller. “It reminds me why this project matters which motivates me to keep it going.”
This year, with help from the Glengary Elementary Student Council and the Walled Lake Wild girls’ hockey team, Guntzviller was able to donate 500 stockings filled with wonderful surprises and gift cards for children in need.
Behind the Scenes: Delivery Day 🎁
Walled Lake Northern is spreading plenty of joy this holiday season!
Senior Lanie Cucchi will give you an inside look on Tuesday when she takes over our Instagram story for delivery day as the Knights' surprise one special elementary school for their annual Gift Drive! You won't want to miss it!

Driving the Spirit of Giving 🚌
Festive fun and heartfelt giving once again highlighted Dean Transportation’s annual holiday party on Tuesday. Our transportation team gathered for an evening of celebration, complete with a magical performance from the Walled Lake Western choir. A special moment of the night came when President Patrick Dean presented Dr. Michael Lonze with a $750 donation for the Hospitality House Food Pantry on behalf of the district — a gesture that reflects our shared commitment to supporting families in need during the holiday season.
Dublin 3rd graders visit the capital 📸
Dublin Elementary third grade students took their learning to Lansing, where history came to life with a visit to the state capitol. Michigan Senator Jim Runestad even gave a shout out to Dublin Elementary.
See more photos from the trip on the District Facebook page.

District announces annual MLK Celebration - Jan. 19, 2026
The entire Walled Lake Consolidated Schools community is invited to attend the District's 27th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration on Monday, January 19, 2026. This year's celebration will be at Walled Lake Northern High School with a tour of student exhibits starting at 5 p.m. and a formal program starting at 6:15 p.m. This year’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration theme is Service.“
"Everybody can be great…because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love."
Nominations now being accepted for annual Friend of Diversity Award
Walled Lake Consolidated Schools is seeking nominations for the 2026 Alec Bender Friend of Diversity Award. This award honors individuals who are true friends of multicultural diversity in our school district and community. This hoor will be bestowed on the recipient(s) at the WLCSD 27th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration on January 19, 2026.
Any student, staff, community member, local business, or local organization is eligible to be nominated. Any member of the Walled Lake Schools community may submit a nomination.
Nominations must be submitted through the nomination form by Friday, December 12.
Students encouraged to participate in annual Express Yourself Contest
Students of WLCSD are welcomed to submit an Express Yourself project. The theme for this year's project is "Service". Students should create a project that expresses what this theme means to them. Projects can be a speech, an essay, a picture, a poem, a drawing, a video, a musical piece or any other format to express "Service".
The winner(s) of this contest will share their projects, on stage, at the 27th annual WLCSD MLK Day Celebration. This is a great opportunity to recognize students and their creativity. It is, by far, the crowd's favorite part of the MLK Celebration. Check out the project details and entry form. All entries must be submitted to a school office by Friday, December 12.
Staff Shout Outs 💙
In an effort to find additional ways to celebrate our staff, the WLCSD Community Relations department requests that families fill out the information below for staff who are rock stars in their classrooms and school communities.
A sample of what these shout outs will look like on social media and in our district newsletters is on the right.

We are looking for new athletes this season and participating in Unified Sports alongside Team Walled Lake is possible.
Days: Monday & Friday
Time: 6:30-8:00pm
Location: Sarah Banks Middle School
Address: 1760 Charms Rd, Wixom, MI 48393
There is no cost for athletes to participate.
Athletes must have a valid physical.
Please complete this Google Form, if interested. This will be used as the registration for the season.
This year, athletes will be split into two separate groups:
Athletes that want to compete at tournaments and scrimmages, committing to the entire season.
Athletes that do not want to participate in tournaments, cannot guarantee attendance, and just want to have fun with their friends.
Both groups are wonderful! The only difference will be is that athletes not competing will not be placed on teams - they will attend practices, but will not 'officially' be on a roster.
