Loving God,
thank You for the gift of a new school year.
Bless our students, teachers, and families.
Fill our classrooms with learning, kindness, and faith,
and guide us to grow closer to You each day.
May all we do reflect Your love.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

WELCOME TO THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR AT EMMAUS

Good afternoon parents and caregivers,

Welcome back to another exciting year at Emmaus Catholic Primary School. We hope all our families enjoyed a restful and joyful break over the holidays. A very special welcome is extended to the many new families joining our community this year — we are delighted to have you as part of the Emmaus family and look forward to walking alongside you in your child’s learning journey.

Over the holiday period, there was plenty of activity around the school as we completed the construction of our new Early Childhood classrooms. These modern, purpose-built learning spaces have been thoughtfully designed to support our youngest learners, providing bright, engaging and flexible environments that encourage curiosity, creativity and a love of learning from the very beginning. We are excited to see these spaces come to life as our Early Childhood students settle in and make them their own. Obviously, like any new building there will be various defects that will be picked up and rectified.

The Pre-Primary classes also had a face lift with new vinyl, a fresh coat of paint, new storeroom created for the teachers and the removal of a window to make way for a doorway.

Looking into the future, we have recently commenced discussions for our Stage 3 building which will start later in the year. This stage will include 2x Years 3 – 6 classes, a library, a multipurpose room, undercover area, new toilet block and 2x basketball courts.

We begin 2026 together, looking forward to a strong partnership with families as we nurture each child academically, socially and spiritually. I would like to thank you for your continued support of our school community — we are excited for all that 2026 has in store at Emmaus. Let us all work together, support each other and continue building this great culture that we have in our school.

SAD NEWS

Just one day into the 2026 school year, our Emmaus community was deeply saddened to learn of the unexpected passing of Jamie Cameron, father of our Year 6 teacher, Kate Cameron. I would like to ask all our school community to please offer prayers for Jamie Cameron and his family during this very sad and difficult time. The funeral was held earlier today at Infant Jesus Parish Church, Morley. May Jamie rest in peace and may perpetual light shine upon him always.

Jamie was a highly respected and long-serving educator within the Catholic Education system for many years, and more recently a valued member of the maintenance team at the Archdiocese of Perth. His contribution to Catholic education and service to the wider community will be remembered with gratitude.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Kate, her mother Carmel — our much-loved relief teacher at Emmaus — and the extended Cameron family as they mourn the loss of Jamie, a dearly loved husband, father, family member and friend. Personally, I would like to extend my thanks to the Year 6 parents who have offered their condolences to Kate via email or cards. I know that Kate has certainly been appreciative of this very kind gesture.

'The Record', our Perth Archdiocese circular, published this touching tribute to Jamie Cameron this week: Farewell Jamie Cameron

LENT 2026

Next Wednesday, we begin the season of Lent in our Catholic calendar. Lent spans 40 days, beginning with Ash Wednesday and ending at sundown on Holy Thursday. This year Lent will begin on Wednesday 18 February and end on Thursday 2 April.

Lent is a 40-day solemn Christian season of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. It commemorates Jesus' 40 days in the wilderness, serving as a time for repentance, self-denial, and preparation for the celebration of Easter.

THANK YOU

I would like to thank you all for your patience at drop off and pick up time. Parents are being very diligent when entering the school and exiting. The flow of traffic at the exit gate along Arthur Street has been fantastic with parents giving way to each other. Please continue to be vigilant in this area.

I would like to remind parents on foot to leave the school only through the single pedestrian gate. Currently, we have a couple of parents escorting their children through the double gate where cars are exiting, which is very unsafe. Please be cautious in this area and use the single pedestrian gate near administration.

God bless!

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

A very warm welcome back to all our families as we begin the 2026 school year. We hope the holiday break provided an opportunity to rest, recharge, and enjoy special time together. We are excited for the year ahead and look forward to working in partnership with you to support your child’s learning and wellbeing.

As we start the year, please ensure you are connected to SeeSaw. Some school messages will be shared through this platform, and it also allows you to view your child’s digital portfolio and celebrate their learning. If you are not yet connected, please speak with your child’s classroom teacher for assistance.

A reminder that staff communication hours are guided by the Catholic School Teachers EBA. Staff will respond to emails and Seesaw messages between 7:30 am and 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday, and aim to reply within 48 hours as per our policy. Staff are not expected to respond in the evenings or on weekends, except in urgent situations. Thank you for respecting staff wellbeing and promoting a positive work/life balance.

Run Club will continue this year for students in Years 1–6 and will take place on Friday mornings at Dayton Open Space @ 8:00 am with Mr Ski. This is a great opportunity for children to get some longer-distance running practice ahead of the Term 2 Cross Country event. Note that children will meet outside the hall first, then walk over together to the Open Space. Any students arriving late will not be permitted to join in the session, unless they are escorted to the Open Space with their parent.

We look forward to a fantastic year filled with learning, growth, and strong community connections. Thank you for your continued support as we embark on what promises to be a wonderful 2026.

SUPPORTING YOUR CHILD'S WELLBEING AT SCHOOL & HOME

As we begin Term 1, our focus on student wellbeing continues to be central to helping every child feel safe, connected and ready to learn. This week, we’re sharing a practical guide from the Australian Student Wellbeing Hub that explores what wellbeing really means for children and families. The article highlights key building blocks including supportive relationships, emotional connection, meaningful activity, and a sense of belonging. It offers simple ways parents can strengthen wellbeing at home while partnering with the school. Research shows that when students feel secure and supported, they’re more engaged in learning and enjoy better social, emotional and educational outcomes. Take a moment to read and reflect on the ideas shared, and join us in nurturing positive wellbeing for all children this term.

LENT BEGINS! LENT BEGINS!

This week we celebrate Ash Wednesday, which is the beginning of the Church season called Lent.

Lent lasts for 40 days and helps us prepare for Easter. It is a special time for Christians to think about how they can grow closer to God.

On Ash Wednesday, students and staff receive a small cross of ash on their forehead as part of our Liturgy. The ashes remind us to:

  • Say sorry for our mistakes (repentance)

  • Try to make better choices (conversion)

  • Show kindness to others (almsgiving)

During Lent, we focus on three important things:

  • Prayer – talking and listening to God

  • Fasting – giving up something small

  • Helping others – sharing and caring for people in need

Lent is a time to grow in love, kindness and faith. As part of our school's commitment to supporting Caritas, our students will soon participate in the Big Water Walk and our Project Compassion money boxes will be added to the class prayer table. We aim to beat our last year's record donation in supporting vulnerable communities in third world countries.
