Maggie Walker Governor's School International Language Fair
From a Former CFI Student!
Dear John Rolfe Middle School,
Hi there! On behalf of the Maggie Walker International Language Fair Committee, we are thrilled to announce that the fair will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2027, from 9:00am to 2:00pm at Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School (1000 N Lombardy St.)! If you are unfamiliar with the Maggie Walker International Language Fair, here’s a brief overview:
· Every year, middle school students from our regional school districts participate in language workshops designed and led by Maggie Walker students.
· Students will attend 4 workshops, each going over one of the many different languages/cultures offered at MLWGS. The languages offered include:
· Spanish
· French
· Russian
· German
· American Sign Language
· Chinese
· Japanese
· Latin
· Italian
· Arabic
· We will do our best to honor preferences for workshops; however, due to the large number of participants, we cannot guarantee that all preferences will be granted. We do believe that no matter which workshop the students participate in, they will have fun and learn a lot about that language and culture.
· Each workshop will allow participating students an opportunity to engage in a series of fun student-led activities, learn about languages offered at Maggie Walker, and experience the life of a MLWGS student. We believe learning about global languages and cultures allows students to become more inclusive, inquisitive, and respectful citizens and learners who see the world with a broadened perspective.
· The fee is $5 per student (non-refundable), this includes lunch, which will be a variety of international foods, allowing participants to learn about global cultures while enjoying the multicultural cuisine. Students with allergies or special dietary needs may pack their own lunch. The fee deadline is January 10th, 2027.
We invite you to register via this link.
*Registration and fee payment will close on January 10th, 2027 (LINK).
If you run into issues or have any questions, please feel free to reach out to mwlanguagefair@gmail.com for assistance.
This is a fantastic opportunity for your middle school students to learn more about other languages and cultures, so we highly recommend that you consider registering. We can’t wait to hear back from you!
Thank you very much,
Maggie Walker International Language Fair Committee
CFI Families, please continue to reach out to Megan Parsley, CFI Coordinator (mgparsley@henrico.k12.va.us) if you have any questions or concerns.
Digital Citizenship, Wellness & Innovation 💻
Securly Home
Families can monitor and control their student's screen time on school laptops while at home. The Securly Home APP allows for these features. Learn how to create your account with the information found here.
Digital Wellness in Action!
In celebration of Digital Citizenship Week October 19th-23rd, Rolfe focused on digital wellness and the effects of too much screen time. During a special lunchtime activity, students contributed stickers for a mural with ideas on how they "Go Green and Screen Free." Over 440 students contributed ideas. The circles are representative of a moment in your life, a reference to the TED Talk by Dino Ambrosi called "The Battle for Your Time: Exposing the Costs of Social Media." Students viewed this video in Advisory and thought of ways to separate from the screen. See some images from the day below. You can also watch the eye-opening video for all ages at the following link: The Battle for Your Time

Student ID Badges
All Henrico County Public Schools students will be provided student ID cards to bring and use to school every day. These cards are designed to streamline and simplify various parts of the school day, while making school environments safer and more secure. The cards bring together a handful of processes and makes them all accessible with a quick scan or tap.
Once they receive them, please be sure that your student has their ID badges when they board the bus. ID badges are required and help to ensure safety for all students.
