Monomoy Regional Agreement Working Group Update
Over the past few months, the Monomoy Working Group has begun to meet regularly, with the location of the meetings rotating between our two towns. At the first meeting, I was elected Chair of the group, and my School Committee colleague Ryan Edwards was elected Vice Chair. I am excited to be a part of this process and look forward to broad engagement around supporting our excellent school district.
We are entering into this process with open minds, and make no presumption about the outcome. Dr. Millen and Mr. MacMillan have provided us with a great deal of detailed data to help us learn and understand the myriad issues at hand. The Working Group will continue to review information before making any recommendations or changes.
Objectives: In our most recent meeting, we finalized our objectives:
- Evaluate and analyze how the existing assessment formula affects each member town, and provide a clear, data-driven rationale for any proposed modifications.
- Maintain transparent ongoing communication with the community regarding the working group’s progress and findings.
- Optimize in-district student retention while upholding its excellence and rigorous operational standards.
- Achieve balanced resource allocation by maximizing student capacity across all grades.
We are committed to ensuring that the process is undertaken transparently and without predetermination. I welcome input from our community, so if you have any questions or comments, please email me at brad.schiff@monomoy.edu. Stay tuned for our next update!
~Brad Schiff, Chair, Monomoy Regional School Committee, and Chair, Monomoy Regional Agreement Working Group

We appreciate your patience and flexibility as our towns undergo a variety of roadwork projects. You will find the most accurate and current information about road closures and detours on our town websites and on the social media pages of local public safety:
- Town of Harwich Website - this page has weekly updates from the contractors, along with detours and recommended school transportation pickup and dropoff spots

These resources are also linked on our website. We ask that everyone be prepared for some slight delays as road construction projects continue in the coming weeks.
Congratulations to Monomoy October Staff Shoutout: Ed York
Congratulations to our Staff Shoutout for October - Ed York, Instructional Assistant at Monomoy Regional Middle School! He was nominated by his colleagues, who said:
"Mr. York takes pride in helping students do better in school, particularly in math. He is thoughtful in how he approaches students' questions and mistakes. Mr. York aims to make sure that students not only get a correct answer, but that they understand the work they are doing. Mr. York is an asset before school in the library as well as a support in general math classes."
Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition! Nominations are now open for November.
Free school meals for all students
Monomoy Regional School District participates in the National School Lunch (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP). As part of these programs, all schools offer healthy meals every school day at NO COST to the students, due to the implementation of the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) for school year 2026-2027. Students receive Breakfast and Lunch (1st meal) at school without having to pay a fee or submit a household application. Find more information on our Food Services website.
Special Education Workshops
Our district is a member of the Federation for Children with Special Needs and we have access to monthly workshops under an All-Access Pass. You can find the full calendar of events, as well as links to register, at https://fcsn.org/events/. You can register for multiple workshops at that link. Once registered, you will receive a link for the virtual session.
November is Native American Heritage Month
During Native American Heritage Month, we give special recognition to the significant contributions the first Americans made to the establishment and growth of the United States, and to our region in particular. The name of our district is derived from Monomoyick, a Wampanoag term meaning “a mighty rush of water,” and from Monomoit, one of the villages of Wampanoag Nation. We honor and acknowledge that our schools are located upon the traditional lands of the Wampanoag People, and pay our respect to members past, present, and future.

Scholar Athlete of the Month: October 2026
Alex Connell
Alex has been a member of our team for the past two years since joining us from across the pond. His positive attitude and infectious smile are central to what brings joy to the team everyday. His size and athleticism makes him a threat for us in the attack and he is relentless in his work rate to win the ball back while being calm and composed on the ball. Alex is also easily coachable and often seeks feedback on how to improve his game. His teachers report that he is a role model in the school and has cemented himself in his new community as an exemplary young man. The combination of positive attitude, good ethics and morals, and work ethic, make him our scholar athlete. - Coach Keith Clark and Adam Legg

MRHS Attendance Form
To report your child's absence, tardy, or upcoming dismissal please use the following link:
https://mrhs.monomoy.edu/attendance
MRHS students are marked present or absent for each class. Students who exceed 10% absence in classes are at risk for losing credit in that class. For example, students may lose credit if they have:
- 5 absences in a term course
- 9 absences in a semester course
- 18 absences in a full-year course
Did you know?
- By 9th grade, attendance is a better predictor of graduation rates than 8th-grade test scores
- Chronically absent high school students had an average GPA of 2.8 vs. non-chronically absent classmates who had an average GPA of 3.5
- When students improve their attendance rates, they improve their academic prospects and chances for graduating
