The Riverwalk Roar
The Riverwalk Roar: April, 27th 2025
A Note from Dr. Compton
Happy Sunday, Pride!
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! And for our K–9 students, I hope you all had an amazing spring break. My family and I spent the week in Puerto Rico, and as I write this newsletter, I’m sitting on the beautiful Playa Flamenco (Flamenco Beach) in Culebra, a small island just off the northeast coast of Puerto Rico.
I tried my best to “disconnect” from school this week, but I’ll admit — that’s easier said than done. Don’t worry — I was very present with my family — but I also found myself often thinking and reflecting about Riverwalk. One of the things I’m most proud of is the family-like culture we’ve built together.
I truly love spending time with our staff and students — they really are the best. So it felt a little strange being away this week and not being able to celebrate some special moments with all of you. For example, I missed seeing Walter and Wyatt Krashner and Jackson Herring celebrate their 18th birthdays, Ava Duncan celebrate her 10th birthday, and all the other students who had birthdays this past week. I also missed celebrating a few of our amazing staff members who had birthdays: Ms. Jones, Mr. Carroll (aka Mr. C), Ms. Mabey, and Coach T. Wilson.
And speaking of celebrations, I also missed recognizing two of our outstanding Chief Smiles Officers: Ms. Robinson and Ms. Vernier. Wednesday, April 26th, was School Secretary Day (also known as Administrative Professionals Day), and these two make such a difference each and every day. Ms. Robinson or Ms. Vernier is usually the first face any of us see each morning — and often the last face we see at the end of the day. The tone of the day is set by these two, and I can’t think of anyone better to start our days with a smile.
I hope each of you has a wonderful week ahead, and I am looking forward to seeing you — and celebrating with you — on Monday!
In Pride and Purpose,
— Dr. Compton
