Leighton Update
September 12, 2025
Dear Leighton Families,
Students did a fantastic job completing their fall assessments last week. This data allows our educators to make important instructional decisions for our children and supports their learning in so many ways. Additionally, as we move through the year, these fall benchmarks are great starting points to see how far our students will grow academically in their various literacy and math skills. Also, this data is instrumental in helping us add supports when necessary for our learners.
We celebrated our first Golden Fork winners last week. Congratulations to Mrs. Yaeger's (3rd), Mrs. Landenberger's (4th), and Dr. Sweeney's (5th) homeroom classes. Their students demonstrated being respectful, being responsible, and being a problem solver during lunch and recesses and earned a bonus recess supervised by Mr. Morris and Mr. Warders. Well done students for meeting and exceeding Leighton's expectations! Our most recent Golden Fork winners are Mrs. Yusko's (3rd), Mrs. Sidders (4th), and Mrs. Samelko (5th). Outstanding job to these homerooms!
Next week, all bus riders will be practicing emergency evacuations with our transportation department. On the mornings of the 16th, 17th or 18th, the buses will take a moment at Craddock to practice how to exit the bus safely in the event of an emergency. Students will learn how to follow the proper protocols and procedures in this important safety learning opportunity.
Enjoy the beautiful weekend and Go Greenmen!
Sincerely,
Spencer Warders
Principal
Update Final Forms: Parent Bill of Rights
We recently were required to add a new form into our Final Forms titled "Parents Bill of Rights." Dr. Milcetich has previously highlighted much of this information in his opening communication to families, as well as his ACSD update sent out this past week on 9/8/25.
Everyone will need to log back into Final Forms to access this form and add their signature that you have received this communication. If you could complete this as soon as possible, that would be greatly appreciated. All of your forms must appear GREEN to be COMPLETE. - Thank you!

Counselors' Corner
Hello Leighton Families! Over the past week (and into next week), all students will see us in their classrooms as we kick off our guidance lessons. These first visits are all about getting to know us and learning how school counselors can help—whether it’s with feelings, friendships, problem-solving, or just having someone to talk to.
We are also always here to support families. Leighton partners with our PTO to assist families with financial needs. By reaching out via this form, phone, email, or in person, we can help with funds for Book Fairs, the Holiday Shop, holiday gifts, Thanksgiving “baskets,” winter clothing, yearbooks, school supplies, or any other need. Please don’t hesitate to contact us—simply let us know what you need, and we’ll connect you with the right support!

Clinic Updates
- Please monitor your child for illness symptoms. If your child has a temperature greater than 100 they must stay home until they are fever free for 24 hrs without medication. For coughing, congestion and sore throat that are disruptive or not well contained, it is preferred they stay home until symptoms are decreased or your child has been evaluated by your physician.
- Students sent home from school with a fever also may not return to school until they are fever-free without medication for at least 24 hours. This means if your child was sent home on Tuesday at 12:00 p.m. with a fever, he/she may not return to school until Thursday. If your child does return the next day, our school nurse will be calling for you to come to pick him/her up. Thank you for your support and efforts in this area.
- Please consider sending in a spare change of clothes for your student to keep in their locker in the event of spills, toileting accidents or muddy clothes.
- If a prescription or over-the-counter medication is needed to support your child during the school day, it must be accompanied by a physician/nurse practitioner signed document. Please reach out if you need a copy of these forms.
- Please remember we are a peanut and tree nut free school in the classrooms!
- Please contact our school nurse, Erika Harper at 330-562-2209 ext 3285 or eharper@aurora-schools.org with any questions related to illness or the clinic.
Wellness Wednesday With Munch the Fox
The Ohio Department of Education's mascot, Munch the Fox, is coming to the cafeteria on Wednesday 9/24! Munch is coming to help us celebrate Wellness Wednesday! We will be providing a free sample of sweet pea and rice salad to any student that would like to try it, not just buyers! Please see the flyer below and here is the link with nutrition information.
You can track your child's lunch account by setting up your profile. You may also send in cash or a check written out to the Aurora City Schools.
Aurora Amigos: Spanish Club
Spanish Club is back at Leighton! There will be three sessions open during the year, one session per grade. The first session will be for 5th graders. There will be room for approximately 20 students per session, and spots will be filled with a lottery system. Look for a final forms message with the google form to sign up for the lottery on September 18th, it will be open for two days. Please reference this link for information about the first session for 5th graders. Contact Mrs. Brancazio, HS Spanish teacher, if you have any questions @ lbrancazio@aurora-schools.org
