LEADERSHIP LETTER
Hello Legacy Families,
At Legacy Academy, we are committed to developing students who exemplify character, community, and excellence. Our National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) chapter is an outstanding opportunity for students to grow as leaders, serve others, and develop the habits and standards that will prepare them for success in high school, college, and future careers.
Eligible 6th graders and new 7th and 8th graders will have the opportunity to apply for NJHS membership in January, with the induction ceremony scheduled for February. Selection is based on the five nationally recognized pillars of NJHS: scholarship, character, service, leadership, and citizenship.
To be considered for membership, students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.75 for the Fall Semester of 2026, as well as demonstrate a commitment to serving others through active participation in chapter-organized projects and individual service activities. Members are expected to show initiative, responsibility, honesty, and respect for others while serving as positive role models within our school community.
Since launching our NJHS chapter last year, we have seen what a valuable opportunity it provides for our Legacy students. We look forward to welcoming more outstanding Legacy Wildcats into NJHS this February! Together, we are building a community of students who lead with character, strive for excellence, and serve others with purpose. Our NJHS Wildcats are becoming future ready leaders!
If you have questions about NJHS or the application process, please contact Amy Hancock at amy.hancock@legacyk8.org. Thank you Amy for all of your hard work in getting NJHS started and continuing to grow the chapter. We appreciate your commitment and dedication to our Legacy students.
Sincerely,
Denise LeSage
Middle School Assistant Principal
PRESCHOOL PLANNING
Legacy Academy is planning to offer a preschool program starting next year, August of 2027. Parental feedback is essential as we move toward the opening of this new and exciting program. Please answer the following questions as we gauge interest for future planning.
SAFETY WEEK HIGHLIGHTS
What an incredible week of learning! Our Wildcats had the opportunity to hear from outstanding community professionals who shared valuable lessons about safety, responsibility, respect, and making good choices!
We extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to our special guests:
Elbert County Sheriff’s Office - Officer Gonifas, Deputy Robinson, Ms. Potestio, and Ms. Liest discussed stranger awareness, what to do in an emergency, and the importance of having a safety plan.
Honorable Judge White - Shared valuable insights about respect, the law, and personal responsibility. Students also enjoyed an engaging question-and-answer session!
Mrs. Jobes, Registered Nurse - Discussed sports injuries, the dangers of vaping and other harmful choices, and the importance of protecting our health. Her message was a powerful reminder: We only get one body—take care of it!
Battalion Fire Chief Regan - Shared important safety information, emphasizing helmet use and E-bike safety.
Mrs. Rollf, EMD/CPR Coordinator and Dispatch Supervisor - Took students behind the scenes of 911, explaining what happens when an emergency call is made and how dispatchers help keep our community safe.
Dr. Bailey, Assistant Principal - Reinforced the importance of carpool safety.
Safety Week was about more than learning rules— it was about building character! Our Wildcats were reminded that courage means doing what is right, responsibility means making smart choices, and respect helps keep our school and community safe.
A special thank you to all our guests for investing their time and knowledge in our students. We are grateful for the dedicated professionals who serve and protect our community!
ART SQUAD
A HUGE shout out to our amazing Legacy volunteers of the week!
Lynsey Maddox, Christina McClellan and our parents that volunteered to chaperone field trips.
A Little Lasagna - A Lot of Appreciation! Lauren Haste and Michelle Fuller provided Lasagna for our teachers during conferences as a thoughtful way to show appreciation for the countless hours they pour into our children.
Thank you PTCO for providing salad, rolls, and cookies. Thank you ladies, you are appreciated.
Thank you AGAIN to the Neidow family for the tree trimming and landscaping work. Our property looks great thanks to you!
WANT TO KNOW WHAT'S HAPPENING AT LEGACY?
Interested in upcoming events, special activities, and ways to get involved in our school community? Join us for our monthly meetings. Your involvement makes a difference in our events for our students! The next PTCO meeting is Tuesday, November 3rd from 5:30-6:30pm. Without parent involvement, we can’t host events. Get involved - it's rewarding!
Community Hero Celebration Day
Community Hero Celebration Day will be Friday, November 6th at 8:15am. Please invite all your friends and family who serve our country in the armed services, fire departments, nursing, medicine, law enforcement, teaching, etc., to our celebration! All children involved in a community service-oriented club, including Girl and Boy Scouts, AWANA, ROTC, etc., may wear their uniforms on this day.
Volunteer Opportunity - Brunch Donations
We'll have brunch after our assembly to honor all our community members who serve us in various ways. We need brunch items such as bacon, breakfast burritos, breakfast casseroles, juice, creamers, breakfast bars, cut-up fruit, pastries, donuts, juice cups, disposable plates, utensils, and coffee. You can drop off all perishable donations anytime before the event in carpool on the morning of the event. Please label any dishes or containers with first and last names. You can retrieve them from the front office. Donation costs and time count toward volunteer hours! Please email Ms. Anne if you can help at anne.stanley@legacyk8.org.
TEACHER PAY
Teacher pay has become an issue in this year’s election here in Colorado. A few data points on Legacy Academy teacher pay over the past few years. During the last two years, the average salary of a Legacy Academy full-time teacher has increased by 8.85% for 25-26 school year, and 5.63% for the 26-27 school year. In addition, the Legacy Academy board approved merit bonus pay for staff. The average teacher bonus paid out each October of 2025 and 2026 was approximately $2000. With merit pay included teacher pay at Legacy has increased over 20% in the last two years. This allows Legacy Academy teacher pay to remain competitive. Also, as we have expanded, the schedule has been changed to double the amount of plan time teachers have to create great instruction for our students.
