Progress Monitoring Reminders
All students should be progress monitored on the most foundational DIBELS measure and TRC. The DIBELS measures range from FSF, PSF, NWF, DORF and DAZE. For students meeting or exceeding benchmark (scoring in the green or blue), they should be progress monitored on the most foundational skill for their benchmark period. For example, 2nd graders at MOY, the most foundational skill is DORF and at BOY, the most foundational skill is NWF.
Third Grade: In an effort to align with DPI requirements, we are reducing the progress monitoring guidelines for third grade students. Once a third grade student reaches a Level P or higher AND has a GREEN composite score with ALL green sub skills, then the student would not have to be progress monitored in mClass:Reading 3D. The student would continue to be benchmarked unless the student has reached a Level U. If a third grade student reaches a Level U at any benchmark period, then in the subsequent benchmark periods, the student does not have to be benchmarked. (The device will prompt you to choose not to assess if the child has reached a Level U.)
Alternate Assessor at EOY
Students in grades K-2 should receive an alternate assessor (who is not the teacher of record) during the end of year TRC benchmark. Although Standard 6 has been eliminated, K-2 teachers still receive an EVAAS growth score using mCLASS data. According to DPI, "The accountability procedures that have been in place for administering TRC EOY are still in place to make sure there is consistency statewide and EVAAS growth is calculated uniformly for grades K-2."
Students in grade 3 need an alternate assessor only if they are attempting to qualify for a Good Cause Exemption. If a third grade student is close to achieving Level P, then the teacher of record should NOT assess the student. Another certified staff member should assess the student. A teacher would determine that a student is close to achieving Level P by utilizing the instructional reading level of the student during small group reading time. The teacher of record should continue to give the DIBELS measures for his/her class. If a student reaches Level P at BOY or MOY, then the teacher of record may assess the student in all subsequent benchmarking periods for both DIBELS and TRC. If a student is performing far below grade level and would not possibly attain a Level P, then the teacher of record may assess at all benchmarking periods. A teacher would determine that a student is far below grade level by utilizing the instructional reading level of the student during small reading group time. Only certified staff members are allowed to assess students with the Reading 3D tool. All assessors must follow the guidelines and ethical practices to ensure the materials remain secure at all times.
Updates from Amplify
