The Au Gres-Sims School District
www.ags-schools.org
Au Gres-Sims Families,
This past week, we had the chance to celebrate Staff Appreciation Week across the district. We know that school staff have a special talent for doing about 47 things at once while still somehow remembering who needs a Band-Aid, who lost a mitten, and which copier is “acting up again.” That kind of dedication deserves more than a week of appreciation, but we hope this week served as a small reminder of how grateful we are.
I want to share one more heartfelt thank you to the incredible people who make our school district such a special place. From classrooms to buses, offices to kitchens, hallways to playgrounds, and everywhere in between, our staff shows up each day with care, patience, humor, and a steady commitment to kids. I would also like to thank the businesses and community members who contributed to our celebration this week, making all staff feel special.
Finally, don’t forget that Mother’s Day is this Sunday. To all of the moms, grandmas, stepmoms, foster moms, mother figures, and those who love and lead with a mother’s heart, we hope you feel celebrated. And to the kids reading this, consider this your friendly superintendent reminder: a card, a hug, or helping without being asked goes a long way!
From the Desk of Mr. Miller
Hey AGS Nation,
This week, we focused on the P2 strength of Enthusiasm. As we get closer to the end of the year, it is more important than ever to keep this strength in mind. This time of year can feel busy and tiring, but bringing positive energy in and out of the classroom can make a big difference.
Enthusiasm helps keep students engaged, builds stronger relationships, and creates a more enjoyable learning environment. It is contagious. When we show excitement, the people around us are more likely to stay motivated and finish strong.
Our AGS community plays a big role in building that enthusiasm as well. Whether it is showing up to events, celebrating AGS successes, or simply sharing positive feedback, those actions help create an environment where students feel supported and energized.
Let’s continue to work together to bring that energy and positivity as we close out the year.
Thanks & Go Wolverines!
Mrs. Steinbauer's Weekly Update
As we move through the final weeks of the school year, it is important to remember that success is about more than just a single test score. At school, we celebrate the growth students make each day through their effort, perseverance, attendance, improvement, and willingness to keep learning even when things are challenging. Whether a student has improved their reading fluency, gained confidence in math, become more organized, or shown stronger problem-solving and teamwork skills, those are all meaningful accomplishments worth recognizing. Growth looks different for every student, and we are proud of the progress our students continue to make throughout the year. As we finish these last few weeks of the school year, remember to look for small wins with your student as well and celebrate those successes. Each step forward is one that makes them a more well-rounded member of our community.
Strive for Fewer than Five: Attendance Matters
Regular attendance continues to play a major role as we head into the final weeks of the school year. This time of year is filled with important learning opportunities, classroom projects, field trips, and end-of-year activities that students do not want to miss. Consistent attendance also helps students maintain routines, stay connected with their classmates and teachers, and finish the year with positive momentum. Every school day still matters, and being present helps students make the most of all the exciting opportunities happening throughout the month of May.

School Counselor Newsletter: Finishing the School Year Strong
Dear Families,
As we head into the final month of the school year, this is an important time for students of all ages. May and early June can feel exciting, busy, and sometimes overwhelming. With end-of-year testing, final projects, spring activities, and the anticipation of summer, students may need extra support to stay focused and finish strong.
Here are some helpful reminders and tips to guide your child through the last stretch of the school year:
Encourage your child to:
Get outside: Fresh air and sunlight can improve mood and reduce stress
Stay active: Physical activity, even a short walk, helps boost mental health
Keep a routine: Consistent sleep and homework schedules support emotional balance
Talk it out: Sharing feelings with a trusted adult or friend can make a big difference
Practice mindfulness: Deep breathing or quiet moments can help students reset during busy days
Encouraging Positive Connections
Warmer weather means more opportunities for social interaction. Encourage students to:
Participate in school events or extracurricular activities
Spend time with supportive peers
Show kindness and inclusion toward others
Support Emotional Well-Being
The end of the year can bring a mix of emotions—excitement, stress, or even worry about transitions. Check in with your child regularly by:
Asking open-ended questions about their day
Listening without rushing to solve problems
Encouraging healthy ways to cope with stress (exercise, time outside, creative activities)
Wishing you a positive and refreshing spring season,
Ashley Cardinal
