Tackling Word Problems
Word Problems & Open Ended Responses

This a one day training that focuses on solving everyday word problems and then transferring those skills to open ended questions.
Solving Word Problems
Solving word problems in Math is very much like completing a TDA in an ELA classroom, and students need to be taught how to tackle these tasks. Not only are they given a math skill to complete, sometimes multiple, but they have to determine what information is needed and what skill they should be utilizing to solve the problem. Participants will look at different approaches teachers can take to teaching their students how to solve these problems, as well as skills to build them up to tackling open ended questions as well.
Open Ended Responses: PSSA
Continuing on from the first day of solving word problems, participants will build upon this knowledge as they dive into PSSA Open Ended questions. They will have time to look at some samples, score different responses, and work on building their own to use with their students upon returning to the classroom.
Registration Information
The training will take place at ARIN Central Office on Thursday, November 21, 2024 from 8:30am-3:00pm each day. There is no fee for this training if your district is part of ARIN Intermediate Unit, and 5 ACT 48 hours will be awarded upon completion.
