Message From The Principal
How we will Celebrate our students!
Every day, staff will be looking for students following our school-wide expectations. (Be Safe, Be Kind, Be Responsible)
- In the cafeteria
- In the hallway
- In the classroom
- At recess
When staff see students being safe, kind, and responsible at school, they will receive a Thunder Token. Students should keep the tokens in their classroom, in the place the teacher decides.
Every Friday morning the teachers will bring all the Thunder Tokens earned to the cafeteria.
Every Friday afternoon, Principal Bowman-White will draw 2 names and call students to the office to spin awheel and win a prize! They'll also get a special celebration note to take home!

Technology for Learning
Seattle Public Schools is committed to ensuring every student has the tools they need to succeed. All students will receive an SPS-issued laptop or tablet to support classroom learning.
If your student still has a hotspot from last year or summer school, please note these have been deactivated and should be returned and reauthorized if a new one is requested for this coming school year.
Licton Springs will distribute devices to students one week after school starts (Sept 9) to K-8 students that have returned their technology agreement paperwork. keep an eye out for the Start of School info packet that contains this and other important forms.
Important Information
Start of School Forms
As we get started in another great school year, your child will be bringing home a packet of important start-of-school forms. Elementary students will receive these in their purple Take Home Folder, while older students may bring home a large envelope containing the paperwork.
Some of the forms require a parent or guardian's signature and should be completed and returned to school as soon as possible. These forms help us keep student information up to date and ensure we can support your child throughout the school year.
Need help completing the forms? We're happy to assist! Please stop by the office or give us a call at 206-743-3700, and we'll be glad to walk through them with you. we can also get forms to you in another language if needed.
You may notice that there is quite a bit of paperwork included. Don't worry! Some of the materials are simply informational and can be reviewed at your convenience. If you don't have time to read everything right away, you can always find the information later on our website:

Helping Keep Our Cafeteria Safe for Everyone
Dear Families,
At Licton Springs K-8, we work together to create a safe and welcoming environment for all students. Some of our students have serious food allergies, so we ask families to review our cafeteria seating guidelines with their children.
When students are in the cafeteria, they will see signs posted on tables that identify either Allergy-Free Tables or Allergen Tables. These designated areas help reduce the risk of allergic reactions and keep students safe during meals.
If your child brings a lunch that contains any of the following allergens:
- Peanuts
- Eggs
- Pistachios
- Almonds
- Citrus
they should sit at an Allergen Table while eating.
Students who have food allergies should sit at an Allergy-Free Table.
Even if no one with an allergy is currently sitting at a table, another student with a food allergy may use that space later and expect it to be free of certain allergens. Choosing the correct table helps protect all students.
Please take a few minutes to talk with your child about these expectations. Their thoughtful choices can help prevent serious allergic reactions and ensure that everyone can enjoy lunch safely.
Thank you for partnering with us to keep our school community kind, safe, and responsible.

🧡 Orange Shirt Day - September 30 🧡
On September 30, Licton Springs K-8 will recognize Orange Shirt Day, also known as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day honors Indigenous children who were forced to attend residential schools and acknowledges the lasting impacts on survivors, families, and communities.
Orange Shirt Day was inspired by the story of Phyllis Webstad, whose new orange shirt was taken away on her first day at a residential school. Today, the color orange serves as a reminder that Every Child Matters.
Students and staff are encouraged to wear orange on September 30 as we learn, reflect, and honor Indigenous voices, histories, and experiences. Together, we continue the work of truth, understanding, and reconciliation. 🧡

Student Meals
Free Meals for All Students at Licton Springs
As we begin the 2026-27 school year, we are excited to share that every Seattle Public Schools student now has access to free school meals, regardless of family income.
For many SPS families, free school meals are already familiar. Students at Licton Springs have been receiving breakfast and lunch at no cost for several years. This year, thanks to a new partnership with the City of Seattle, free meals will now include all students at all schools.
As a result, every SPS student at every school can now receive:
- One free breakfast each school day
- One free lunch each school day
Meals are provided at no cost when they meet U.S. Department of Agriculture meal program requirements.
What Families Need to Know
Even though meals are free, students must continue to enter their information when receiving a meal by scanning their student barcode or entering their student ID number at the cafeteria point of sale. This process supports required meal-program records and funding.
*When students get additional items, snacks, second entrées, or individual items that are not part of a complete meal they will be charged separately.
Please Complete the CNEEB Application
While school meals are available to all students at no cost, SPS encourages every family to complete the Child Nutrition Eligibility & Education Benefit (CNEEB) application. The information helps schools receive important funding and resources and may qualify students for additional educational benefits. Families who do not wish to provide income information may select the “Decline Benefits” option.

Seattle Schools - District News
MySchoolBucks Fee Increase for 2026-27
Effective July 31, MySchoolBucks increased its online credit and debit card transaction fee from $3 to $3.25 per payment. This fee is charged each time funds are added to a student’s meal account, including one-time deposits and automatic payments. The fee is not charged per meal purchased.
Families can avoid the online transaction fee by submitting cash or checks directly to their school’s cafeteria to be deposited into their student’s meal account. Checks should be made payable to Culinary Services.
Questions? Contact Culinary Services.
Youth ORCA Cards
As you know, all youth aged 18 and younger ride transit for free in the Puget Sound region. King County Metro highly encourages young people to use a Youth ORCA card when they ride; this provides ridership data to funding partners at the State of Washington, helps Metro plan its service, and simplifies fare enforcement.
Students and families can order a Youth ORCA card for a student online with proof of age.

Attendance Counts: Show Up for Success!
Regular attendance is one of the strongest predictors of student success. When students are in school, ready to learn each day, they build skills, strengthen connections, and contribute to a thriving school community.
Seattle Public Schools is committed to supporting families by tracking attendance, communicating about absences, and helping address challenges that may make it difficult for students to attend regularly. If your student will be absent, please notify the school in advance whenever possible, or within two school days of their return. Together, we can help every student stay engaged and on the path to success.
Safety and Security
School Safety: Everyone Has a Role
SPS is committed to creating safe, welcoming environments where every student can thrive. Keeping schools safe is a shared responsibility.
- Keep your contact information up to date to receive emergency alerts via phone, email, and text. You can update your emergency contacts through the Student Data Verification Form starting in September.
- All visitors and volunteers must check in at the school’s front office upon arrival.
Families are encouraged to download the SaferWatch app, which enables students, staff, and community members to report safety concerns. This initiative supports the district’s commitment to early intervention and proactive threat mitigation.
Together, we can build a culture of safety and trust in every school community.
