UNIFORM/DRESS CODE
PERMITTED ATTIRE
SHIRTS
- Any short or long sleeve t-shirt, polo or button up shirt
SWEATSHIRTS and JACKETS/COATS
Jackets/Coats are not permitted to be worn during school.
Hoodies are PERMITTED BUT HOODS ARE NOT TO BE PULLED UP ON A STUDENT'S HEAD
*Due to the inability to see a student’s face while a hood or hat is being used, they both have been deemed unsafe. When students wear hoodies or hats, it can be difficult to identify who they are or if they attend the school. Staff must be able to see the profile of student’s face to ensure quick identification.
- Crewneck sweatshirts are permitted.
*If a student must be reminded multiple times about the hoodie policy, they will lose their privilege to wear hoodies to school for the remainder of the school year.
PANTS/SKIRTS/JUMPERS/SHORTS
No shorter than three inches above the knee.
Jeans or any pant with rips, tears or holes must have a fabric backing or be worn with leggings or tights underneath.
Pants must be worn at the waist and not sagging.
Pants that are too big must have a belt.
No undergarments should be visible
Sweatpants, sweatsuits, jogging pants, warm-up pants, athletic pants and shorts are permitted
Pajama pants are not permitted.
BELTS
Belts are not required but pants must be worn at the waist. Pants that sag must be worn with a belt at the waist.
SHOES/BOOTS
Tennis/Athletic/Gym shoes are preferred.
Crocs are permitted.
Slippers are not permitted
Flip Flops are not permitted
SOCKS/TIGHTS
Students can wear any color of socks or tights.
BACKPACKS
All students should have a backpack. Only 7/8 grade will be permitted to carry their backpack during the school day. Backpacks for Middle School must not exceed 8.5” x 11”.
2023-2024 SPIRITWEAR UPDATE
In the fall, Edison Spiritwear will be able to be purchased on a new spiritwear website. Any spiritwear ordered from previous years may be worn.
*Handmade items that have the Edison logo are prohibited.
ACCESSORIES PERMITTED
Small purses no larger than 4.5 inches x 6.5 inches are permitted.
Handmade Edison Items such as hair bows are permitted.
RESTRICTED ATTIRE
✖ No clothing (such as shawls) can be worn over pants, skirts, or shorts (except for Religious reasons).
✖ Blankets cannot be worn as wraps or coats and must be left in a student's locker or cubbie.
✖ Handmade Edison logo shirts or sweatshirts are not permitted to be worn or sold.
✖ Coats are not permitted to be worn during school.
✖ No hats or hoods worn in the building during the school day.
✖ No pants worn below the waist or “sagging”.
✖ No sleeveless tops, tank tops, tube tops, halter tops, mesh tops, midriff tops, spaghetti strap tops.
✖ No sunglasses.
✖ No pajama tops or bottoms.
✖ No flip-flops or slippers.
✖ No “heelies” or “wheelies” (i.e., athletic shoes with skates).
✖ No clothing or other item with offensive, lewd, vulgar, obscene or hate language, slogans or pictures.
✖ No buttons, jewelry or other accessories containing lewd, vulgar, obscene, hate, or offensive messages or pictures or which advocate or advertise the use of drugs or alcohol.
✖ No secret society, fraternity, or sorority symbols or lettering
✖ No hair rollers, combs, picks, or cosmetology clamps
✖ No hoodies, head rags, doo rags, bandanas, sweatbands, hats, caps, shower caps, sleep bonnets or other head coverings (Note: Certain religious customs are permitted)
✖ No visible underwear/briefs, thongs, bras, or other clothing items considered to be undergarments.
✖ No detachable gold teeth (unless required by a dentist with written documentation on file)
✖ No grills or fangs
