Inspiring Purpose, Compassion & Excellence
CELEBRATING DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR
This month, students across all grade levels honored the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by learning about how his words and actions continue to shape the world we live in today. Through classroom discussions and activities, students explored Dr. King’s commitment to civil rights, equality, and standing up for others.
Students also reflected on Dr. King’s famous speech and created their own hopes for the future. Their wishes were thoughtful, genuine, and deeply inclusive. Many students wrote about wanting everyone to be kind, to feel safe, and to have equal opportunities to learn. Others shared dreams of good health, happiness, and a world where people care for one another.
Inspired by Dr. King’s message and example, our students and classes are eager to do their part to make a positive difference in our school and community. We are proud of their compassion, empathy, and growing understanding of how small actions can help create meaningful change.
WRITING ACROSS THE GRADES
Students across all grade levels are engaged in a variety of writing experiences as they continue to grow as confident writers. As you are aware, all grade levels are implementing the S.R.S.D. (Self-Regulated Strategy Development) literacy framework to support students in planning, organizing, and strengthening their analytical writing, including writing in response to one or more texts.
In addition to analytical writing, students are also participating in process writing. This includes writing to share their opinions, conduct and present research, and develop narrative pieces. Through this balanced approach, students learn how to generate ideas, revise their work, and express their thinking clearly across multiple genres.
Currently, students are actively engaged in both analytical and process writing, and they enjoy demonstrating their knowledge, creativity, and voice in many different ways. Kindergartners are working on sharing their expertise with their audience and they construct How To pieces. It turns out our youngest students have extensive knowledge on a wide variety of topics, including being a good friend and student, reading, riding a bike and more.
Our second and fourth graders are in realistic fiction and fantasy units and their creativity is shining. Students in the younger graders are focused on elaboration as they add dialogue and description to the middle of their stories. Our older writers are provided peer feedback around the essential elements of peers' fictional pieces.
We are proud of their hard work and enthusiasm as they continue to develop strong writing skills. We thank you for your continued support at home as we encourage students to grow as thoughtful and capable writers.
CARLOOP REMINDERS
Ensuring a safe and smooth arrival and dismissal takes the cooperation of every member of our school community. We appreciate your continued support in helping our students begin and end each day safely.
As a reminder, please keep the following guidelines in mind to ensure that arrival and dismissal run efficiently:
-
Please reduce your speed when entering and exiting school grounds.
Please only park in the handicap spots if you have a placard.
Please park in a designated parking spot and not the “through traffic” lane.
Please do not park in crosswalks or let students get out in the crosswalk.
-
Exercise patience and caution with other drivers and school staff.
-
Pull all the way forward in the car loop to allow traffic to move smoothly.
-
Make sure your child is ready to exit the car promptly when you pull in.
As always, we appreciate your cooperation and partnership in keeping our school community safe. Thank you for your support.
