New Math Curriculum and Grading:

This year, our district adopted Innovamat's Thinking Math, a curriculum designed to build deep mathematical understanding through consistent spiraling and revisiting of skills throughout the year. Students are introduced to concepts and continue developing their understanding over time, rather than being expected to master each standard immediately. Because of this approach, math grades may fluctuate as students learn, practice, and revisit concepts. A student’s current grade reflects their progress at this point in the year and may change as their understanding develops.

Jog A thon Jog A thon

Friday, October 30th

Mark your calendars! Our Jog A Thon is Friday, October 30th here at Coyle Elementary.

Last year, we raised an incredible $7,625.26! We purchased PE and Art Equipment, Classroom supplies and helped fund our Sun Shades.

This year, our goal is to beat that record!

During the Jog-A-Thon, students will walk, jog, or run as many laps as they can within a 40-minute period. This year’s theme is a Fall Fun Run during Spirit Week, so students are welcome to dress up! Please do not wear masks or carry props. Students must wear shoes and clothing appropriate for walking and running.

We invite and encourage parents and guardians to join their child’s class by volunteering or walking, jogging, or running alongside their child! Families are also welcome to stay and have lunch with their children. All family members and visitors must sign in before coming on campus.

Students are encouraged to ask family members, friends, and relatives to make a pledge or donation. Please see the next page for more information. Thank you for helping make this year’s Jog-A-Thon a success!

Volunteer Update Volunteer Update

Important Information

Beginning July 1, 2026, California Senate Bill 848 expands annual child safety requirements for school volunteers. Volunteers who are 18 years of age or older must complete additional child safety requirements before volunteering.

To become a volunteer for the 2026-27 school year, you will need to adhere to the Tuberculosis (TB) screening, annual Child Abuse Prevention Training, and fingerprinting requirements. Please see below for detailed information.

Step 1: Complete Volunteer Verification form https://forms.sanjuan.edu/261907350176963 You will need to upload your tuberculosis (TB) results signed by a medical professional. This will be required to submit your application.

Step 2: If you indicate you already have fingerprints on file (including as a previous/current volunteer or employee in our district), your application will be reviewed by an analyst. If found on file, you will receive communication and a link to the annual online Child Abuse Prevention Training found here: San Juan Unified - Child Abuse Prevention Training

Step 3: If your fingerprints/background review are not on file, instructions on how to complete the process, along with the required form for LiveScan, will be sent via an email entitled "Authorized for Background Review." You will also receive the link to register for the annual online mandated Child Abuse Prevention Training.

Step 4: If a background review is needed, you will schedule a fingerprinting appointment at www.sanjuan.edu/fingerprint. The Volunteer Verification form must be completed first, as it is required to link your fingerprint results.

Volunteer fingerprinting is currently offered at no cost. Appointments are available between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. A valid photo ID is required. Evening walk-in clinics are available during the school year and can be found on the calendar further below.

Step 5: The Volunteer team will confirm completion of the annual Child Abuse Prevention Training. Once you begin the online training, you will have 30 days to complete it. Completion of this training is required before volunteer service can begin.

Step 6: Your application will be reviewed in it's entirety to ensure all requirements have been completed. Once completed, you and your primary school site will receive notification of your volunteer status.

Final Step: Volunteer! Congratulations and thank you for volunteering with us! Please connect with your school site for volunteer opportunities throughout the school year.
