Expedition Spotlight - 6th Grade

6th Grade Crew launched their first case study of their expedition, Systems of the 3rd Rock. Learning is focused on the formation of earth and the solar system. In this first case study, students will also explore what can be learned from the rock record and the geologic time scale. Students organized science journals and systems for tracking their organization and work completion. The 6th graders' first lab involved creating a model of the solar system to consider how density influences the locations of the rocky planets and gas giants in our solar system. Students created detailed drawings of their observations in their science journals.

School Picture Day

Portrait EFX will be here Wednesday, September 23rd for picture day. After their picture is taken, your student will be given a card with information on how to order photos online.

We are requesting donations of healthy snacks be dropped off at the office to support kids who need snacks. We are also accepting gift card donations (WinCo Family Friendly cards are preferred) to help school families in need. If you are able to donate, please drop them off at the main office. Thank you for supporting our community!

From the Board

Volunteer Opportunities

One of the many great things about being part of this community is the opportunity to serve our school, staff, and students by joining a committee. Committees provide a space for in-depth discussion and focused work. Some committees are made up of board members only, but most are combined committees of board, staff, and PPCS community members.

Committees are a great way to learn new things, meet excellent people, and help fill some of our school’s needs. Please consider joining a committee for the 2026-2027 school year.

Board Meetings

All families are invited and encouraged to attend the monthly board meeting. Meetings are held in-person at PPCS or via Google Meet. You can find the upcoming dates, agendas, and meeting details on the website: https://palouseprairieschool.org/school-board/

You are welcome to address the board during the public comment period. In order to do so please submit a request via email to the Board chair (chair@palouseprairieschool.org) at least two days in advance of the meeting. The email should contain your name; whether you are a student, parent/guardian of a student, school employee, or person residing within PPCS’s attendance area; and describe how the public comment is relevant to the school.

The next board meeting is Monday, September 28th at 6:00 PM.

Parent Crew Meetings

Parent Crew is a great way to get involved at PPCS. A staff member will always be there to share what is going on at school and you can get involved in the many activities that parent crew supports for our school. Come and join the crew!

National Math Club & MATHCOUNTS Competition Series at Palouse Prairie

Open to students in grades 6th through 8th, students will be able to learn and practice math concepts in a fun setting. National Math Club (https://www.mathcounts.org/programs/math-club) is a program that gives middle-school students the opportunity to engage with math in a non-competitive, social environment. It is led by a parent volunteer Ellery Blood, with support from Jake Sapozhnikov and PPCS teachers Renée and Andrika.

Interested students will also have the option to participate in the MATHCOUNTS competition series

providing students the opportunity to compete in live contests against and alongside their peers.

We’ll be meeting on Tuesday mornings from 7:20 to 8:10 in the middle school science classroom. The first meeting will be on Tuesday, September 22nd . All students in grades 6th through 8th are welcome. 5th graders will be invited to join in the spring, after the competition series ends.

If your child is interested, please follow this link to fill out the google form with your information (or just show up for a meeting, but I’ll still need your email to send out updates).
