Principal's Letter
Dear North Star Community,
Our 8th graders have been busy putting their engineering skills to the test—designing and building egg drop apparatuses! Their first round of testing took place while our 3rd graders were at recess, and it was such a joy to watch our youngest Gryphons cheer on and be inspired by the creativity and excitement of our oldest ones. Moments like these truly capture the spirit of our learning community.
As we head into Halloween week we know there’s been a lot of information floating around, and we’ve worked hard to pull everything together in this newsletter edition in one clear, concise place. Our elementary students will enjoy a parade toward the end of the day and a super-fun dance after school. Middle school students can look forward to a campus-wide scavenger hunt (keep an eye out for hidden skeletons!) and a dance on Saturday evening. Tickets for both dances will go on sale next week. More details below!
Please also be on the lookout for messages from your child’s teacher or grade-level team about any classroom-specific logistics—like costume changes or other special details. We’re looking forward to a week full of fun, creativity, and community!
With gratitude,
Erin Kekos
Principal, North Star Academy

New Information
Halloween
Student Council and Leadership for both elementary and middle school are working hard to create fun Halloween activities this year!
E L E M E N T A R Y (3RD - 5TH)
Elementary students are running a haunted classroom during the day, followed by a carnival and dance after school, on Halloween, 10/31.
Students will have a small parade during enrichment period, starting at 2:15. Parents are welcome to attend; sign in at the front office to get a visitor sticker and then proceed to the black top.
The Elementary Carnival/Dance will be 3:15-4:15. This event is just for NSA 3rd-5th graders. If parents are not volunteering but would like to stay on campus, they are welcome to hang out on the blacktop or over by the playground until the event is over.
Tickets for the carnival are $10, cash only, and sold during lunch every day, and after school next Tuesday and Wednesday until 3:20 at the blue lunch shelter.
M I D D L E (6TH - 8TH)
- Likewise, in leiu of the parade and costume contest, middle school will host a special Halloween Dance on Saturday, 11/1. Please print, sign, and send this permission slip with your child/ren. There will not be a Halloween parade during school hours for this age group, per their decision. They would appreciate chaperones and helpers, and candy & drink donations!
Details for these events can be found in the Student Council section of this newsletter, below.
Middle School Permission Slips
- If your 6th–8th grade student(s) plan to attend the Middle School Halloween Dance on Saturday, November 1, please print and sign this permission slip and send it with your child. You can also sign the form at the gym entrance before they go into the dance.
Note that is referring to the middle school dance only, not the elementary school Halloween carnival, which is held on Friday 10/31.
As families start pulling together Halloween costumes, please take a moment to review and discuss the costume guidelines with your student(s).
