The School Year is Hitting the Final Stretch!

7 months down and only 3 more months to go (well, maybe 2.5 months)! Another school year is flying by and the NRESC is looking to end the 2024-2025 school year on a high note while planning ahead to 2025-2026. This month, let's be sure to unwind during spring break so we are ready and focused for the energy which enters our schools when the weather changes and summer vacation is just around the corner!

On a personal note, my wife Kathleen and I celebrated our amazing son's 11th birthday on March 27! Happy Birthday to Nicholas, "The Voice of the NRESC Snow Day!"

Save The Date! NRESC Education Foundation Golf Outing: May 19

We are thrilled to announce the first-ever NRESC Education Foundation Golf Outing, and we invite you to join us for an exciting day on the course in support of a great cause! Congrats to Dr. Haimowitz and Dr. Finelli for their fantastic presentation at the Special Education Convention & Expo in Baltimore! Over 100 people attended their presentation on their work with medically fragile students at the Phoenix Center in Wanaque.

Pi Day Fun at the Phoenix Center

The Phoenix staff had a blast on Pi Day! Pi Day is a celebration of the mathematical constant π (pi), which represents the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. Pi Day is observed every year on March 14th (3/14), since the first three digits of pi are 3.14.

Flying Kites like a Phoenix!

Students and staff at the Phoenix Center made the most of some beautiful weather by flying kites, embracing the fun and freedom of the outdoors!

Hope Scholar Pizza Party

This month, Hope Academy honored its hardworking scholars with a well-deserved pizza party at lunch! The room was filled with smiles and pride as students were recognized for their dedication and commitment to their studies. We are so proud of their efforts and can’t wait to celebrate even more scholars in the future. Keep striving for excellence!

Thank you so much to Gary Bierach and GJB Management of Totowa for their very generous donation and delivery of a Wurlitzer piano to the staff and participants at Second Home! They are so excited and we already have guest players coming by every Thursday to use it!!!

Ms. Stetson celebrated Read Across America at School #15 in Paterson with a speech session focused on following directions and rhyming words!

Summer School Credit Recovery in Full Swing!

The Northern Region Educational Services Commission (NRESC) will host summer schools in Clifton, Wayne, and Harrison during July of 2025. Summer credit recovery is available for students in grades 6-12 at all locations. This service allows students to stay on track to ensure that they graduate on time, eliminates and/or eases the need for students to double up on courses during the school year, and ensures that class sizes are reasonable.

Feel free to contact the Commission if you would like to explore offering a summer program within your school district.

Extended School Year Programs throughout the Region!

The Commission will continue to operate ESY programs throughout the region, as well as provide staff to numerous district-run ESY programs.

Dr. Vancheri Had Fun on Read Across America Day

For Read Across America Week, Dr. Vancheri read to students at Ramapo Avenue Learning Center. Dr. Vancheri chose to read "Because I'm Your Dad", which was his son's favorite book to read together as a little guy!

Dinner & Bingo at Hope!

Hope's Family Dinner & Bingo Night was filled with laughter, connection, and community. We were thrilled to see so many families come together to share a delicious meal, enjoy a few friendly rounds of bingo, and take home some fantastic prizes! The energy in the room was absolutely contagious, and the sense of togetherness reminded us why Hope Academy is such a special place.

The Vancheri Family (and NRESCY) Made it to NRESC Family Night!

On NRESC Family Night, the Vancheri family made it to Second Home! Nicholas even wore NRESC gear, NRESCY tagged along, and Kathleen bought a dish made by Second Home participants.

Calendar Reminders

Monday, April 14- Friday, April 18: The NRESC central office, as well as its schools and programs, will be CLOSED for spring break! The central office will be open on Tuesday, April 15, and Wednesday, April 16, for staff members needing assistance.
The 2025-2026 NRESC calendar was board approved at the March 14, 2025 meeting. You can access it by clicking here.

Evaluation Season is Here!

All certificated staff will receive their third round observations by April 25 (non-tenured) OR May 2 (tenured).
All certificated staff will complete their SGOs/PGOs/admin goals by May 2, regardless of tenure status.
All certificated staff will receive their summative evaluations by by May 9, regardless of tenure status.
All non-certificated staff and individuals being evaluated outside of TEACHNJ/ACHIEVENJ will receive their summative evaluations by May 30.
