Principal's Message Principal's Message

Hola Scotties,

We are really getting back into the swing of things after winter break, and it has been wonderful to see our students reengaged in their learning routines. Over the past few weeks, students have been working hard on winter benchmarking assessments in both math and reading. These assessments, along with daily classwork, give us valuable insight into student progress and help guide our instructional planning.

This is also a reminder that there will be no school next Monday and Tuesday. During this time, teachers will be completing Quarter 2 grades and planning for Quarter 3 instruction. This work is grounded in the data collected from winter assessments as well as evidence from in-class learning, allowing our staff to be intentional and responsive to student needs.

As a staff, we continue to focus on improving teacher clarity and supporting students in understanding and measuring their progress toward daily learning targets and success criteria. Helping students know what they are learning, why they are learning it, and how to recognize success remains a priority across our school.

We are grateful to the families and students who participated in the Successful Schools Survey and would like to share a few highlights. Our greatest increase in family responses was in the area of family–school communication, an area we have worked hard to strengthen over the past few years. We also saw our highest score ever in school safety, with 84 percent of families responding favorably in that category. Student survey results showed the largest increase in teacher–student relationships, with 89 percent of students responding favorably to the question about how respectful their teacher is toward them. Additionally, 92 percent of students reported that what they learn at school is important to know, which is especially encouraging and affirms the meaningful work happening in classrooms each day.

Warmly,

Tiana Ahmann

A member of our Scott School community has a citrus allergy. We ask that all citrus foods, drinks and products (for example cleaning supplies and lotions) are kept at home at all times. We appreciate your cooperation and support in maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all.

Hi Scotties!

We are looking for volunteers to help plan and put on our teacher appreciation event the week of 05/04-05/08. Typically there is a potluck along with a raffle. It is one of our bigger staff appreciation events and we would love to have your help! Please reach out to Sarah Gardner with interest or questions at staffappreciation@somosscott.org.
