Principal's Message
Hello PRT Families!
It was an exciting week with winning two more city championships and the night football game! This fall season, PRT has now earned 7:8 city championships - 5 from cross country and 2 from volleyball. Way to go Huskies! A huge shoutout to our students for their school spirit and positive behavior at the night game on Wednesday. We had more than 450 students involved with the game including football, band, choir, pep club, cheer, dance, yearbook and science olympiad. This is more than half of our student body! Also a huge shout out to our staff at the night game! It took 35 staff members (1/3 of our staff) to pull this event off. Thank you for your time in the evening to give our students such a great experience and a night they will remember!
The fun continues next week with our 4th annual community service day. We have over 800 students boarding twenty busses to go serve at forty locations all across the metro. We are so excited that our students have this awesome opportunity every year!
There is so much to be proud of and to celebrate but we could also use our parents help with a conversation at home about respecting our school building. In the last month, a new issue has popped up that we haven't experienced before. We are having a major problem with chewed gum being dropped on the floor all over the school, stuck under desks, left in chairs. Unfortunately, people are stepping on it and we had one student sit in gum that made a huge mess on his shorts and likely ruined them. Also, this week a large amount of graffiti with inappropriate messages and profanity showed up in the boy's restroom. Our custodian, Mr. Pena wasn't able to take care of it in house and instead we had to put in a work order for the bathroom to be painted. I hate to come to you all with this concern with all the fun and positive that is happening at PRT but this behavior is uncharacteristic from our students and perhaps conversations from home could help us get back on track.
With the start of the new quarter, school expectations, policies and procedures are reviewed below.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and we look forward to seeing you all at conferences this week!

INFORMATION FOR FAMILIES
Activities Recap
Volleyball
We are the Champions! The 8th grade team fought hard Tuesday night and came out with the City Tournament victory! We first played against Pioneer Trail in the semi-final with a convincing win 25-19 and 25-13. All 11 players were able to get into the game. Aubree Dunigan and Andie Striegel held it down as outside hitters and back row players. They were incredible. Annabelle Miller and Penelope Bradwell combined for a handful of blocks while dishing out some monstrous kills. After that win, we then were tasked with playing Oregon Trail. They were on a run, starting as the 6 seed making it to the championship game, but they were no match for our girls. The 8th graders soared to victory with ease. Emory Lustig was the setting puppet master - she orchestrated a beautiful offense all night. Olivia Schamberger and Brook Strack were integral parts of our team as well, each playing their hearts out for their teammates. Blaire Swenson was a superb passer in the backrow, rounding out a perfect season. Coach Gin could not be prouder of these ladies and the work they have shown this year!
Congratulations to the 7th grade girls volleyball team on winning the city championship Tuesday night. They finished the season undefeated, not dropping a a single set. They won a hard fought battle in the semi finals against Mission Trail, then took down Oregon Trail in two sets in the Final. We are so proud of all your hard work and dedication this season! Congratulations girls!
Football
What a night for PRT Football!
The 8th grade Huskies took control from the opening kickoff and never looked back in a dominant team victory over Oregon Trail!
The offense did it all—passing touchdowns, rushing touchdowns, and extra points through the uprights! The offensive line pushed people around all night, while the defense was absolutely SUFFOCATING, even getting in on the scoring!
A HUGE thank you to our band, cheerleaders, dance team, and incredible student section for bringing the energy and making our Night Game such a special event!
Great night, great cause, and a GREAT day to be a Husky!
Math Counts
Yesterday 34 PRT students competed at the Olathe Middle School Math Contest at Santa Fe Trail. In 6th grade, the team of Oliver Harris, Jace Hoge, Cainan Kirby, and Camden Martin tied for 3rd place with the team of Aarav Madaiah, Immanuel Mathew, Bryse Paat, and Madden Schamberger. In 7th grade, the team of Wesley Becker, Will Dawson, Brayden Liu, and Jordan Stone placed 1st! And in 8th grade the team of Om Dholakia and Arctan Zheng placed 1st as well! Great job Huskies!

Middle School Semester Grades
Olathe Public Schools made districtwide gradebook updates for middle schools over the summer to better align grading throughout each semester. Student grades will no longer reset at the end of the first and third quarters.
Instead, Quarter 1 grades will roll forward into Quarter 2 to create the Semester 1 grade, and Quarter 3 grades will roll forward into Quarter 4 to create the Semester 2 grade. This change provides a more complete picture of student progress at the end of each semester and prepares our students for high school.

Students Needing to Leave School Early
If your student needs a pass to leave during the school day, please provide at least 30 minutes notice for all passes to be delivered in order to ensure the timely arrival of your student and minimal disruption to classes. Thank you for your assistance!
Drop off / Pick Up - Car Line Procedures
The PRT car loop only enters the west parking lot by turning left. The sign pictured here is posted and indicates no right turn into the west carline entrance. This means all cars must come north on Valley Road, turn right on 107th Street and then turn left into the parking lot.
Although we understand this may not be ideal for some, it's really important that everyone follows the set traffic pattern. The office receives phone calls from frustrated parents that wait in the line the correct way when others cut the line by turning right. The traffic pattern was set by the city in an effort to protect the neighborhoods to the east and to prevent interference with the bus route and students who walk and ride their bikes to school. Please follow the set traffic pattern.
Additionally, for student safety, students cannot be dropped off on 107th Street and cannot be dropped off in the front entrance turn lane. The front circle drive is for busses only, not car drop off. Thank you to everyone for following the set traffic pattern as this ensures safety and helps with traffic flow.
When dropping off, please pull all the way up to this sign. Ideally, we would have three cars in front of the cross walk every time the new round of cars pull in.
Student Expectations at School
Parents, we encourage you to review these expectations with your student(s).
Students may bring a water bottle with a lid to school. Only water is permitted in hallways and classrooms. Any outside drinks (Starbucks, Dutch Bros, etc.) must be consumed in the MPR prior to the school day and must be disposed of prior to school starting at 8:20am. Students should never use their water bottle as a squirt gun as the water on the hallway floor causes a safety concern. This has been a problem in the past and will result in consequences per our student code of conduct.
Outside food deliveries, such as Door Dash or Grub Hub are not permitted. Parents may drop off outside food for their child only on special occasions. Parents may not bring outside food for students other than their own.
Students may not wear hats or hoodies on their heads. We must be able to identify all students at all times.
Clothing worn to school must be school appropriate. No midriffs should be visible, shorts must be long enough to cover, tops should not be too low cut and undergarments may not be visible. Items deemed as spirit wear may not be worn on days other than spirit days. Items deemed a distraction may not be worn. All advertising, graphics and words on clothing must be age appropriate and may not include alcohol, drugs and profanity. Our middle school students grow so quickly! Thank you for your help in making sure that what is worn to school is school appropriate.
Students must bring their charged device to school daily. Students need to be mindful of what they type/search on their computers and remember that the device is monitored by district technology. Student devices are for schoolwork only. Students may not touch other students' devices.
Students receive 20 restroom passes to use during class per quarter. Additionally, students may use the restroom before school, in the locker room when changing for PE, at lunch and during passing periods if they have classes close to each other.
Personal Electronic Communication Device Policy
Middle school students are encouraged to leave their personal electronic communication devices at home, but those who bring personal devices including cell phones, smart watches, wireless headphones or earbuds, smart glasses, tablets not issued by the school, and similar devices, must keep them turned off and securely stored in their locker throughout the school day. Each student has been assigned a hallway locker to use if they would like. Students will still carry backpacks to class with their school items. Student hallway locker information can be found on the Student Info tab on ParentVuew/StudentVue. Devices should not be carried on a student's person or be readily accessible during the school day.
Student Motorized Scooters and Bikes
As we continue to prioritize student safety and maintain an orderly school environment, we want to remind families of the following expectations regarding student transportation to and from school:
- Students riding bikes, scooters, motorized scooters, or e-bikes must walk their equipment once they are on school property to ensure the safety of all students and staff
- All bikes, e-bikes, and scooters must be secured in designated outdoor storage areas (e.g., bike racks) and taken home at the end of each school day.
The school is not responsible for the storage, security, or maintenance of any student transportation equipment. For their safety, students are expected to wear appropriate protective gear, such as helmets, when riding bikes, scooters, or e-bikes. Middle schools do not issue permits for students to drive vehicles to school, regardless of age. We appreciate your partnership and support in helping us maintain a safe and organized campus.
All bikes should be parked on the west side in the bike racks.

26th Annual Rev. Dr. MLK Jr. OPS Contest - Due 10/21
We are excited to share with you the theme and quote for this year's 26th Annual OPS Dr. MLK Jr. Contest. This is a collaborative contest with the Olathe Human Relations Commission, Garmin, Olathe Libraries and Olathe Public Schools.
This year's theme is Integrity & Justice. His quote, "The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy." reminds us that integrity and justice can bring people together, heal division, and create lasting change. Even when facing hatred, he encouraged others to respond with courage and kindness.
This year’s contest invites our middle school and high school students to explore what integrity & justice means in your life and community. Students will express themselves by sharing their writing, art, or multi-media skills as they consider the theme – Integrity & Justice.
We are looking forward to receiving middle school and high school entries in visual arts, multimedia and written work from all schools. All entries are due to the PRT office on or before Wednesday, October 21, 2026. Building finalists will move on to the district competition where there are cash prizes for winners. If your student is interested in participating and needs more information, they should speak with Mr. Mellen.
