A Message from the Principal

Dear Highlander Families:

Next week is promotion and there are so many activities for our students and families. Our 8th grade students will turn in their iPads on Tuesday and participate in practice for the promotion ceremony early in the week. On Thursday, there is an 8th Grade Awards Assembly at 8:30am, families of students receiving awards have been contacted by their teacher. Students need to report to campus at 5:15pm and the Promotion Ceremony starts promptly at 6pm. Friday is a minimum day for all students with dismissal at 12:37pm and then the 8th Grade Promotion Dance takes place from 6pm - 9pm that evening.

Students in 7th grade have finished reading the Outsiders and everyone is invited to dress up to celebrate the characters in the book. Our 7th grade students who want to be WEB leaders at the 6th grade orientation in the fall must apply by Monday. Applications were emailed to students and parents on Wednesday and can also be found in the Grade Level Google Classroom. Thursday, May 21st is the last day for after school tutoring for the year. Friday, May 22nd is a minimum day, breakfast is served before school and lunch is served during student break. There will not be food served after dismisal at 12:37pm and the library will be close after school, please plan accordingly.

Please stay connected to Hewes by checking our website and following us on Instagram @heweshighlanders for the latest information and news.

Highlander for a Day is a recognition program at Hewes Middle School that celebrates students for incredible moments of Winning the Day the Highlander Way. Students are recognized for working hard, including others, never giving up, controlling their responses, choosing to act above the line, and taking extreme ownership of their 20 square feet. These are the habits and mindsets that shape our Highlander culture, and we are so proud to share them with our entire school community.

We are thrilled to announce that Advanced Art student, Julia, is the winner of our Binder Reminder Cover design contest for the upcoming school year. While there were many impressive entries, Julia’s design stood out as the favorite among both students and staff. Well done, Julia!

As we head into summer, we want to remind you of an important mental health resource available to all students and families through our partnership with Care Solace. Care Solace is a confidential care coordination service that helps connect families with mental health providers, substance use support, and community resources matched to their needs. Their multilingual Care Companion team is available 24/7/365 to assist with finding providers, scheduling appointments, and navigating insurance options.

In addition, Care Solace has created a helpful Summer Toolkit for families that includes:

  • Tips for parents for navigating transition into summer

  • Intention-setting activities

  • Guidance for finding a therapist and accessing support resources

You can find the Summer Toolkit attached and you can access our district’s Care Solace information page here: Care Solace Resources

We encourage families to explore these resources and prioritize wellness and self-care throughout the summer months.
