Spring Break was a good one for me, a quiet one for the most part (the best kind), and it will be a relatively quiet and brief message as well..

It's that surreal time again, that time when you come off of spring break and realize that Graduation is less than two months away, a motivating time for most students and staff to get it done.

When you come back from spring break, it's like starting the 4th quarter, the home stretch, the most important quarter of them all, the one that ends the game and ends the school year. Undoubtedly, we always reflect back on those first three quarters, but what really counts is where you end up.

No one cares about the three touchdowns you threw in the first half if you lose the game in the fourth. No one cares how you got to third base if you don't make it home.

No one cares how good or bad you did on an assignment or test early on. Rather, it's how well you learn from your mistakes, recover, and propel yourself forward. Ultimately, it's where you end up that counts the most.

Spring Break is over, we're rounding third, and it's time to bring it home.

SHOUTOUTS

We'll keep the shoutouts very small this week, but we'll be back next week. I am sending out one big shoutout for now.

Shoutout to the DCHS baseball team. On Tuesday, DCHS will play our first ever baseball game at Scott City. I want to commend the hard work and efforts of AD Brandon Gehring in putting together a schedule and coaches Josh Fortin and Matt Ostmeyer for providing the passion for the sport and taking on the challenge of starting a new program. More than anything I want to give a huge shoutout to the boys that are playing. It will be a small team but a team that will come to truly rely on one another. Rarely do you get to be a part of history, but someone's getting the first hit, throwing the first pitch, and scoring the first run, and they will forever be etched in DCHS history together.

Spring Play: Beeblebrox and Bixley Traveling Circus and Sideshow

I am going to bet that very few of you have heard of this year's Spring Play. As a matter of fact, I think that several people that saw the flier on our Facebook page thought that we were having the circus come to town. Personally, I am always excited to be surprised by something new.

Showtimes:

Friday: 7:00

Saturday: 7:00

Sunday: 2:30

Plot: There's Bobo the Pathetic Clown, whose name pretty much says it all; Leo the tightrope walker, who's afraid of heights; the bearded lady/ who is cleanly shaven; and the fat man, who's gone on a diet.... and these are the good acts. Unless the Beeblebrox and Bixley Traveling Circus and Sideshow can do the impossible in only three days, unless they can put on a show so good it will impress a world-renowned circus critic, then they will be forced to close their tent flaps forever. Come one, come all to The Beeblebrox and Bixley Traveling Circus and Sideshow.

Freshmen Orientation

On Thursday, March 27, DCHS will host a Freshmen Orientation night at 5:30 in the cafeteria. I encourage any parent that has a student that is about to enter the 9th grade to attend this meeting. The more planned out a student is at the beginning of high school, the more likely they will achieve the goals they want, and for the first time, their classes are counting towards credits. Here are some possible examples of what you can expect to hear at the meeting:

-Graduation Requirements

- Potential college credit courses during high school

- Scholarship opportunities

- Honors Curriculum

- Required classes

- Elective classes

- Athletic expectations and requirements

Of course there will also be an opportunity to ask any questions that you may have as well.
