Band Families,

This week students have been turning in videos of themselves doing skill tests, composition performances, etc., and it has been great seeing and hearing them play again! One thing I've noticed is many students are really sitting or holding their instruments in awkward positions trying to play their music. A musician really should have a working music stand - it enables them to hold their instrument properly, have a correct embouchure, and see their music....all at the same time. If you need a new music stand, you should consider this:

Basic but usable Basic Stand

Mid-range and more sturdy Mid Range

Higher-end and best quality Higher End

This week we will have our regular Zoom meetings with a theme - OUTSIDE DAY!

Reminders for this week:

• The Composition Project is done...or should be! If for some reason you need additonal time, please communicate with Mr. Aubrey.
  

• 6th Grade woodwinds / brass have Eat Sheet 2 should be completed and submitted. 6th Percussion should have Snare Drum Exe #1 completed and submitted.
  
  
• Don't forget your weekly practice journal. Keep track of it on a google doc and then copy and paste at the end of the week into the Weekly Practice.
  
  
• This week we will start our "Research and Respond" project that will be due by Friday 4/24. See the assignments section of Canvas for details!

A key aspect to having an instrument that is healthy to use and working efficiently is to make sure it is cleaned and maintained on a regular basis. Much like a car or anything mechanical, you have to maintain your instrument to get the most out of it and have it operating at a high level.

Please spend some time this week getting your instrument cleaned up and maintained.
Here are some specifics:
Flute
Oboe
Clarinet
Saxophone
Trumpet
French Horn
Trombone
Euphonium / Tuba
Percussion - Snare
Percussion - Mallet Instrument

Information on sanitizing your mouthpiece (all woodwinds / brass)

Mouthpiece cleanser for purchase (or use isopropyl rubbing alcohol)

Assignemnts for all classes will be listed in Canvas - that is now our hub for information for the 4th quarter.

Online private lessons are unique, but are working well. Several of our BV instructors are offering this as an option. In our current situation, I really can't say enough about how helpful this would be - I would highly encourage it! If you would be interested in reaching out to any of our instructors about virtual lessons, please let me know and I will get you in touch with them.
