Hastings Budget April 23, 2025
April 23, 2025
Dear Hastings Families and Staff:
As we approach the upcoming Budget Vote and School Board Election, I want to ensure that all residents have the information they need to participate in this important civic process.
On April 22, the Board of Education unanimously adopted the Recommended 2025–26 Operating Budget. The budget will now be put to a community-wide vote on May 20, 2025.
Highlights of the Recommended 2025–26 Operating Budget:
Stays within the tax cap of 3.66%, despite a 4.73% budget-to-budget increase—achieved through over $1.3 million in reductions.
Preserves priority academic and extracurricular programs, reinforcing Hastings’ vision as a unified K–12 system with increased coherence across all schools, departments, and programs.
Invests in essential academic and social-emotional supports at Farragut Middle School, advancing the FMS Action Plan (January 2024). Focus areas include improved curriculum and instruction, expanded 21st Century and Authentic Learning opportunities, and enhanced MTSS services tailored to individual student needs.
Bolsters Hillside's fostering of whole-child growth through SEL, flexible MTSS, and hands-on enrichment for all. Supports include STEAM, robotics, extended math, small class sizes (17–24), ICT teams, interventionists, and a reimagined Innovation Learning Commons.
- Maintains Hastings High School’s full suite of academic offerings and class sizes, while expanding the acclaimed Science Research Program from two to three years.
- Increases targeted special education support across all buildings to meet student needs more effectively.
