BEST YEAR EVER
“Write That Check” Campaign
Hello, Morningside Wolves!
This year is going to be the best year yet…because of YOU! Our students thrive at Morningside, not only because they are the most awesome humans on the planet, but also because our Morningside Wolf Community hosts the best team of Teachers and Admin Staff who are deeply committed to the success of our kids. Who else is committed to your child’s successes? YOU! This year, along with the PTA, we invite you to empower your students, teachers, and the entire Wolf family, to reach our goals for continued programs and events, making our school THE BEST SCHOOL.
Did you know that your teachers need help making sure they have the supplies they need in the
classrooms? Not only for daily learning tools like books, paper, pencils, markers, but also items to enable fun projects throughout the year that help foster students' love of learning. How are all these things possible? With your support, of course! Last year at Morningside, there were several great community events such as Back to School Night, Apex Fun Run, Fall Festival/Trunk or Treat, Movie Night, Steam Nights, Pics with Santa, and the Dance-athon! There are also many programs offered to enjoy like Reflections, Chess Club, and First Lego League too!
Your Morningside PTA works diligently to cultivate strong relationships between teachers and families, hosts school events, provides financial assistance to teachers for classroom supplies, sources enrichment programs for the students both during and after school, and assists in funding
events necessary to keep our little Wolves happy and safe.
Let’s start the school year off by raising needed funds for another amazing year. Our goal for this year is to provide our students, teachers and school with events and programs such as those listed above. We are asking for $20 per child to reach our goals for student and family events, as well
as enrichment programs for the year. Please take a few minutes to send your support via one of the following options:

Digital Citizenship is IMPORTANT!
Digital citizenship is using technology responsibly and appropriately. To be a good digital citizen, you know what is right and wrong and make good choices when using technology.
Share this video with your child and discuss how to be safe while using technology!
Do you know about the Safety Responses and Protocols at MES...
Comal ISD uses the Standard Response Protocol (SRP), which provides common language around five protective actions campuses can take when an emergency arises. The SRP is based not on individual scenarios, but on the response to any given situation. The actions used are Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate and Shelter.
Students are taught these terms along with drills according to the action. Here is what these different actions mean.
- Hold – In your room or area. Clear the halls.
- Secure – Get inside. Lock outside doors.
- Lockdown – Locks, lights, out of sight
- Evacuate – To the announced location
- Shelter – Hazard and safety strategy
Entering Morningside Elementary...
Before entering a school this year, you will notice a new safety feature. The new addition is a video intercom system located on an exterior wall near the entrance of each campus. The system will be marked with a yellow sign.
In order to enter the school, every visitor will step up to this intercom; push the button; and tell the front office staff his or her name and the reason for the visit. The front office staff will be able to see the visitor through the video camera and grant entrance into the front door.
Once inside, visitors will be required to show a picture ID and sign-in. Please note that this will be the new procedure every time you visit a Comal ISD campus whether it is to drop off lunch or to pick-up your student for a doctor’s appointment.
As the school year begins, please be patient with each other and the staff as this new procedure becomes routine and a part of our district’s overall safety procedures.
Morningside Elementary is a Title 1 Campus...
So what does that really mean?
Title I is a federally funded program that ensures all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging state academic achievement standards and state academic assessments. Title 1 provides supplemental funding for resources to schools with a high concentration of students on free/reduced priced meals. The Schoolwide Program upgrades the entire instructional program in the school to enable all children to reach the state’s content standards for reading/language arts and mathematics. Educational goals include:
- Additional teachers and paraprofessionals
- Training for school staff
- Improve academic achievement of lowest-performing students while upgrading the educational program of the entire school;
- Parent and Family Engagement activities
- Affording parents substantial and meaningful opportunities to participate in the education of their children.
- Title 1 Funding must be allocated in the budget towards programs, activities and practices for parent and family engagement.
- Title 1 schools are required to develop and distribute to parents and family members a written Family Engagement Plan/Policy.
Title 1 provides families the "Right to Know". This means Parents have the right to request and receive timely information regarding the professional qualifications of their child’s teachers and paraprofessionals. Parents must be notified if their child is assigned to or taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher who is outside the field in which they are certified.

This month, 3G will address social skills in order to help students maintain relationships.
Especially in this digital age, it is crucial for them to develop self-awareness and learn how their actions and words affect other people! This next week is especially important as 3G introduces Manners and relates them to “rules” in our game of life.
