hello
Some thoughts for the starting school year
I'm so glad you are here!
Dear Students and Families,
Welcome to a new school year! My name is Mrs. Sewer, and I’m so excited to be your School Social Worker this year. Whether we’ve known each other for a while or we’re just getting started, please know that my office is always a safe, welcoming place where students can feel supported, heard, and encouraged.
My goal is to support students in developing the social and emotional skills they need to thrive in school and in life. I work with students on everything from friendship skills and self-regulation to building confidence and understanding emotions.
I truly value working alongside families and teachers to help each student succeed. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions, want to collaborate, or just want to say hello!
Wishing you a year full of growth, connection, and joy.
Warmly,
Mrs. Sewer, LCSW

🌟 Starting Strong: Transition to School Books
Here are some wonderful read-alouds to help children feel confident and ready for school:
-
“The Day You Begin” by Jacqueline Woodson – A beautiful story about feeling different and finding connection.
-
“First Day Jitters” by Julie Danneberg – A fun and relatable story that helps ease first-day nerves.
-
“The Day You Begin” by Sonia Sotomayor (Just Ask!) – Encourages kids to embrace differences with kindness.
-
“School’s First Day of School” by Adam Rex – Told from the school building’s perspective—lighthearted and reassuring.
-
“The Invisible String” by Patrice Karst – A comforting reminder that loved ones are always connected, even when apart.
✨ More resources will be added here as the year goes on—stay tuned!
