It was a beautiful, warm week here at DKHS. I love it when summer tries to hold on. Please be mindful of our handbook dress code policy and make sure we are dressed appropriately for school. That being said, I continue to be pleased and proud of the way our students are adjusting to new things, and I’m hearing from teachers that our kids are engaged and showing good effort.

We wrapped up our fall NWEA testing this week in both math and ELA, and are hopeful that our new targeted intervention strategies in AEP will show good growth in the spring. I want to remind you to encourage your kids to always give their best effort on all standardized testing we do, as it shows the best picture of their current skills. These test scores will also be used later for opportunities in dual enrollment, AP classes, scholarships, and admissions, as well as the work world, so taking those tests seriously can pay off later.

Tonight, our football team plays Lawton in our annual Veterans Game. We want to honor and say thank you to all who have served and are currently serving in the military, police, fire, and first responders. This includes some of our current students who are in the local EMT and Fire Fighters Cadet program. Know that we appreciate you and honor you for your service. If you fall into one of these categories, we would love to see you at the game and give you free admission. Thank You for DOING A JOB.

Next week is Homecoming with a full slate of activities, including our community-wide parade on Friday with our highly rated band leading the way, followed by the football game at 7:00 PM and the coronation ceremony of our King & Queen at halftime. Please come out and support our kids at the parade that starts at 5:30 at the Methodist Church. The Homecoming Dance for our high school students will be a semi-formal on Saturday Night at the high school from 7:00-10:00 PM. Wednesday is We Wear Pink Theme, and the Powderpuff game between the junior and senior girls will be on the high school field at 6:00 PM.

This week’s Hogie’s’ Heroes DO A JOB award winners are Blake Newcastle and Sean Beeke. Blake has been running the scoreboard at the volleyball games as well as holding the door and greeting students in the morning. Sean took it upon himself to help clean up some tables in the cafeteria. Both of these guys are fine young men of good character and are doing what they can to help. Thanks for DOING A JOB, fellas.

The Delton Kellogg Panthers are set to host their annual Veterans Appreciation football game on Friday, September 19th at 7:00 PM. This year, the Panthers will face off against the Lawton Blue Devils in a Southwestern Athletic Conference showdown that promises to be more than just a game.

The event is dedicated to honoring and showing gratitude for the sacrifice of military personnel, first responders, and veterans. As a token of appreciation, all military personnel, first responders, and veterans will receive free admission to the game.

The highlight of the evening will be a special on-field recognition ceremony held before the national anthem. All who have served are invited to join the teams on the field to be publicly acknowledged for their service and sacrifice. This pre-game tribute aims to provide a moment for the community to collectively thank those who have served our country and local communities.

This annual tradition is a testament to the strong community values held by both Delton Kellogg and Lawton. It provides a unique opportunity for fans, players, and staff to come together and celebrate the heroes among us. The game is expected to draw a large crowd, eager to cheer on their respective teams and, more importantly, to honor those who have given so much.

The Panthers and Blue Devils are both looking forward to a competitive matchup, but the true focus of the night remains on the veterans. The community is encouraged to come out and show their support for both the teams and, especially, for our local heroes.

Join the Delton Kellogg Panthers and the Lawton Blue Devils on Friday, September 19th at 7:00 PM for an evening of football and a heartfelt tribute to those who serve.

HOMECOMING 2025 HOMECOMING 2025

Monday, September 22: Under the Sea Spirit Day

Dive into Homecoming week by dressing up in all things aquatic! Wear your best beach attire, fish-themed gear, or anything that reminds you of the ocean.

After school, come help design your class's banner! We'll be outside, in front of the main office from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The more students from your class who show up, the more spirit points you'll earn.

Tuesday, September 23: Rhyme Without a Reason or Twin Day

It's a two-in-one theme!

For "Rhyme Without a Reason," find a friend and dress up as two things that rhyme but have nothing to do with each other. For example, grab a pal and go as "a bee and a tree" or "a frog and a dog."

If you'd rather keep it simple, choose "Twin Day." Coordinate an outfit with a friend and spend the day as twins!

Don't forget, we'll be making banners outside the main office from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Stop by after school to help your class earn spirit points!

Wednesday, September 24: We Wear Pink & Powderpuff Football Game

On Wednesday, grab your favorite pink outfit and join us for "We Wear Pink" day!

Right after school, you can work on your class's banner. We'll be outside the office from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. It's a shorter session than usual, so be sure to stop by and help finish the final touches.

Then, head over to the football field to cheer on our juniors and seniors at the annual Powderpuff game at 6:00 p.m.!

Thursday, September 25: Students Dress Like Teachers, Teachers Dress Like Students

Flip the script on Thursday and have some fun with our "Students Dress Like Teachers, Teachers Dress Like Students" theme! Students, dig through your closets and find a fit that looks like your favorite teacher. Teachers, find those clothes that take you from leading the class to sitting in class.

It’s the final night for banner making! Join us outside the main office from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to put the finishing touches on your class banners. This is the last chance to earn those spirit points and get ready for the parade!

Friday, September 26: Panther Pride Day

It's time to show your school spirit! Wear your best maroon and white to show support for our Panthers.

We'll be holding our annual Pep Assembly at the end of the school day to get everyone hyped for the big game. Right after school, hang out with your friends or grab some food from the athletic boosters to get ready for the parade. If you want to participate in pep assembly games, please sign up using this Google Form.

Line up for the Homecoming Parade starts at 4:30 p.m. at the Methodist Church, and the parade begins at 5:30 p.m. Come watch the Delton community come together! If you want to walk with your class banner in the parade, please sign up using this Google Form.

After the parade, head to the football field to cheer on our Panther football team as they take on their rivals. During halftime, we’ll be honoring our Homecoming Court and announcing Homecoming King and Queen!

Saturday, September 27: Homecoming Dance

The week culminates with the Homecoming Dance! The dance will be held in the school cafeteria from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person and will be sold during all lunch periods starting next Monday. Don't forget to bring your student ID and your ticket, you will need both to enter the dance! Also, all guest request forms are due to the main office by Tuesday 9/23 (see office for more details).

Let’s make this Homecoming a week to remember. We can't wait to see you there!

Sincerely,

The Student Council

"Students in AP Biology are using statistical analysis to determine whether or not Double Stuf Oreos are actually double the 'stuff'. Students were tasked with finding the mass of the filling of Double Stuf Oreos and comparing that to two regular oreos fillings mass. In conclusion, students determined that Double Stuf Oreos are MORE than double the 'stuff'."

"Ms. Hebenistreit's classes got to enjoy the new company of 32 fluffy friends who arrived on Wednesday. The chickens will be raised in the class, primarily, by the Farm-to-Table and the Agricultural Biology classes. Our Farm-to-Table students will even have the opportunity to see the chickens be processed, at Munsell's Poultry in Fowlerville, at the conclusion for their 6 week stay. What a great opportunity for students to see the development of chickens and learn more about one of the leading industries in America."
