EWSD Calendar of Inclusive Holidays/Recognition Days
This week we recognize the various people in our schools and community who support the EWSD vision:
American Education Week - November 13-17
Educational Support Professionals Day - November 16
Substitute Educators’ Day - November 17
Started in 1999 by transgender advocate, Gwendolyn Ann Smith, as a way to honor the memory of Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was killed the year before, Transgender Day of Remembrance (November 20) began as a vigil. It now serves as a way to honor the many people lost because of anti-transgender bigotry and violence. Following Transgender Awareness Week, the day is also meant to bring attention to the transgender community overall and to the ongoing issues it faces. This article from Parents Magazine provides helpful information about how to talk with kids about gender.
