Principal Soliz' Notes

October 13, 2026

PrincipalSoliz' NotesOctober 13, 2026

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Good evening, Ram parents and guardians,

Our focus this month is safety. It is important that we all remain vigilant, especially during dismissal when many of our Rams are walking home.

As I shared in Thursday's brief safety tip, students designated as “Walkers” should be walking directly home from school. If you are picking up your child in a vehicle, please use the car rider line located at the back of the school rather than parking along Gristmill to pick up a student designated as a walker.

Following our campus and district dismissal procedures helps keep everyone safe by reducing the number of vehicles along the narrow portion of Gristmill toward Heidenreich Road. Please also remember to:

  • Follow all posted school-zone speed limits.

  • Stay off cell phones while driving through the school zone.

  • Remain especially alert for students crossing streets and walking along the roadway.

  • Use the designated car rider line when picking up your child by vehicle.

A few weeks ago, one of our students was struck by a vehicle while walking home. Thankfully, the student's injuries were not life-threatening. This incident is an important reminder that each of us plays a role in keeping our Rams safe.

Walkers walk home. Car riders are picked up through the car rider line. Thank you for helping us maintain safe and consistent dismissal procedures.

Every Minute Matters

I also want to emphasize the importance of daily attendance and arriving on time. Instruction begins at 7:30 a.m. and continues until 2:55 p.m. Every part of the instructional day is important to your child's learning.

Texas attendance requirements are based on instructional minutes, making both absences and portions of the school day missed important. We understand that doctor's appointments, family emergencies, illness, and other circumstances sometimes require students to miss school. However, patterns of absences, late arrivals, and early checkouts can add up to significant lost instructional time.

Please help us protect your child's learning time by having your Ram at school, on time, and here for the entire instructional day whenever possible.

Thank you for partnering with us to keep our Rams safe, present, and learning every day!

Thank you for your continued support and partnership. Together, we will finish the year strong!

Complete Your Free & Reduced-Price Meal Application!

Complete Your Free & Reduced-Price Meal Application!

Completing the Free & Reduced-Price Meal Application is important—even if your child does not plan to eat school cafeteria meals.

The information collected helps determine funding that directly benefits our school and our students. It also plays an important role in state accountability, ensuring Ramage Elementary is compared with schools that have similar student populations.

This year, Ramage Elementary received $115,150 in Title I funding, allowing us to provide additional resources, including a campus math interventionist to support student learning.

If you have not yet completed the application, we encourage you to do so as soon as possible. Paper applications are available upon request from the front office.

Thank you for helping us secure valuable resources and opportunities for all of our Rams!

Library Parent Portal

At Hays CISD, we are dedicated to providing a safe and supportive learning environment. We recognize and value the essential role parents and guardians play in guiding their children's education.

We are excited to introduce new parental control features in our online library catalog. These tools will enable you to browse your child’s school library collection, view current checkouts, and restrict access to any materials you believe are not a good fit for your child. Click [here] to access your login credentials and begin exploring this new tool. Click [here] for more instructions on the library portal.

These features will enhance our partnership in supporting your child’s education. By tailoring library access, we aim to create a learning environment that aligns with your family’s preferences. We encourage you to utilize these tools to foster meaningful discussions with your child about their library selections.

Having lunch or breakfast

  • You can enjoy lunch or breakfast with your child only.
  • Do not allow other children to eat food you bring. It may be hard to say no, but there are many students with food allergies.
  • There is a table that parent and child can use. Ask the Lunch Room Monitor for help.
  • All must wait for the child in the cafeteria.
  • Loitering in the halls is prohibited.

Drop-Off & Pick-Up Reminder

For the safety of our students and to keep traffic flowing smoothly, please remember:

  • The front of the building is for buses only.

  • Do not drop off students in the front, unless it is 7:30. Parents who arrive late must park and sign their students in at the front office.

  • All student drop-offs must take place at the back of the building from 7:00-7:30.

  • During afternoon pick-up, parents should not park in the front parking lot to walk up and retrieve walkers.

Thank you for your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and efficient dismissal for all Rams!

A NOTE ABOUT DISMISSAL

Car Riders
Thank you for your continued patience with our dismissal procedures. Our goal is to finish by 3:15–3:20 p.m., though we are not consistently there yet. Because the dismissal finish time can vary, it is difficult to provide an exact time for when students will be taken to the front office. Please be prepared to check out your child in the front office if needed, as students are brought there as soon as the last car has been loaded.

Walkers & Bike Riders
As our car rider line becomes more efficient, the release time for walkers and bike riders will also improve. Please note:

  • All walkers and bike riders are considered independent once they are released.

  • Release occurs after buses have departed and the car line has cleared.

  • Times cannot be predicted, so if you are picking up by car, we strongly recommend using the car line.

  • If you choose to park, do not call out to students. Please wait in the designated pick-up spot.

Students who appear uncertain or “lost” at dismissal are being brought back into the building for safety. These students should be dismissed as car riders until they are confident with the independent walker/biker routine.

Thank you again for your patience and cooperation as we continue refining our dismissal process.

Cell Phones & Personal Communication Devices Prohibited

Lunch Application

Completing the lunch application is very important for Ramage students. Why? This information determines how much federal monies our school will receive. This type of funding helps us fund more staff like interventionists, as well as resources for our students. Please complete it even if your child will bring their own lunch.

If your child already receives free or reduced priced meals, the roll over ends September 25. Complete the application to avoid interruption of services.
