The Counselor's Role
The school counselor’s role on our campus is to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and staff to help students succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. We partner with the community to ensure that everyone has access to resources and support needed to be successful and reduce barriers during their educational journey.
Leadership and Advocacy
As members of the Leadership Team, Trimmier Counselors execute an assortment of initiatives for students, staff, and parents. Our leadership is exemplified by the Tiger Alliance, Student Council. It fosters student leadership and fosters school-wide collaboration. Leading the No Place for Hate program, which involves students and staff in active learning on topics of bias, discrimination, inclusion, and allyship, is an example of leadership. We, as counselors, assist families in navigating the school environment and obtaining access to resources, remove obstacles to academic success, and provide opportunities for skill development. Our goal is to help students attain their full potential.

Use of Implementation Cycle
The Trimmier Elementary Counseling Advisory Committee reviews the programs that are implemented throughout the school year. The focus of the committee is to assure that a Comprehensive School Counseling Program is in place to meet the needs of the campus and to review the effectiveness of those programs. We discuss the campus needs and collaborate with staff and stakeholders the implementation of programs to meet needs of our students. The counselors review with the team the counseling activities throughout the year and as needed. The activities that are reviewed are the annual Freedom Walk, Red Ribbon Activities, No Place for Hate Program, SEL Guidance Lessons, School Safety, Student Council activities and other school wide events that happen throughout school year.
At the first meeting of the year, the school counselors presented plans for the Freedom Walk, data from SCUTA, and topics for scheduled guidance and SEL lessons, with the focus on meeting individual students needs through small group counseling. The counselor also explained Tier 2 and 3 counseling supports. This included explaining the process for referring students to TCHATT and other outside agencies where parents and students can receive additional support.
During the second meeting, school counselors collaborated with the Advisory committee on ways to improve the Comprehensive School Counseling program for next year. Members shared areas where students may need additional support, SEL topics, event debriefs, and the impact of No Place for Hate activities on campus culture.
Section 3: Foundational Components
Trimmier Elementary Counseling Department Mission Statement
The mission of the Killeen Independent School District Guidance Program is to advocate, support, collaborate and build relationships to empower all students to acquire academic, career, personal, and social competencies to make every student future ready.
Defintion, Rationale, and Assumptions
Definition: The comprehensive school counseling program will be provided by the Trimier counselors and staff members. Together with all community stakeholders, we strive to empower students to reach their academic potential while fostering improved attendance and discipline in a nurturing environment. Through our partnership, our students will be inspired to grow into well-rounded individuals.
Rationale: Trimmier's comprehensive school counseling program empowers students to thrive by fostering their academic, career, and personal/emotional growth. The counseling program empowers students to develop their problem-solving abilities, enhance their interpersonal and intrapersonal skills, and gain valuable insights into personal health and safety. Trimmier's counseling program employs a range of data-gathering tools, including discipline data, assessment data, attendance data, and social/emotional data from programs, to identify and understand the unique needs of each student.
Assumptions: To create a truly impactful and holistic school counseling program, the following environment and resources must be in place.
Every stakeholder is empowered with equal access to the valuable resources and programs provided by the Trimmier Counselors.
Parents and community members are actively participating in the journey of creating, implementing, and evaluating the school counseling program through the School Counseling Advisory Council.
Utilizing assessment and discipline data to thoughtfully allocate time for counseling services, strategic planning, collaboration, and various activities beyond counseling fosters a supportive environment for growth and development.
Embrace Capturing Kid's Hearts to foster deep connections with students and cultivate a nurturing, secure learning atmosphere.
The School Administration dedicates resources to address essential counseling needs, focusing on professional development and ensuring a safe environment for all.
The Trimmier Parent and Staff Newsletters shares uplifting updates with staff, students, families, and community members about our monthly activities and the important social-emotional themes we are embracing together.
A thorough School Counseling Needs Assessment developed by the District to evaluate the needs of students, staff, and families.
Developing Program Goals
The school counseling program's planning, implementation, and evaluation are essential components of a successful academic year for students. After the surveys were completed by students, staff, and parents, SMART goals were established. In addition to employing a school survey, data from the Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS), campus improvement plan, and discipline data were employed to address the social-emotional requirements of students. Counselors will propose the SMART goal to the CAC for final approval.
Evaluating our Program
Trimmier counselors will monitor and evaluate each SMART objective that was established throughout the academic year. The re-evaluation procedure involves the examination of data and trends that were identified through the surveys. Furthermore, the effectiveness of the implementation of each SMART objective for the counseling program is assessed by considering feedback from the CAC and school administrators. The Campus Improvement Plan (CIP), discipline data, and attendance data are employed by counselors to evaluate the success of the counseling program.
