Good evening, Trojan Families!

This is a message from your proud principal, Mrs. Kinard, and the school leaders at Ferndale Middle School. We strongly encourage you to access the digital version of this announcement, available on our school website and social media. It contains additional important information that you and your students need to know.

Happy New Year! We hope you had a restful and enjoyable break. We are excited to welcome students back to school on Monday, January 6th, as we continue our journey toward a successful close to the school year.

This is an important time for our students, as we prepare to finish the second quarter strong. The second quarter ends on Friday, January 24th, marking the halfway point of the academic year. It is crucial that students remain focused, diligent, and engaged in their learning.

Please help us remind students to stay on top of their assignments, maintain strong attendance, and put forth their best effort each day. Together, we can ensure that their grades and attendance reflect their hard work and commitment to excellence.

Thank you for your continued support. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Let’s make this second half of the school year spectacular!

MATH MOMENTUM

We had another wonderful week of learning math. The Math Department continues to assess the best way to determine how well scholars have understood and retained math concepts, terms, and vocabulary. We are preparing for our Second District Math Interim Assessment to be held on Tuesday, January 15, 2024. This assessment not only shows how well our Ferndale scholars have understood the math content they have learned since the last Interim Assessment, but also how well we score compared to other Middle School Math classes.

There are also ways that math can be supported at home included in the schematic below.

Please find below the teachers and math content we are covering this week.

Ms. Walker is continuing to teach 6th Grade Math from Open Up Unit 4, our GCS district approved math curriculum, focusing on Dividing Fractions.

Ms. Spears is continuing to teach 7th Grade Math from Open Up Unit 4, our GCS district approved math curriculum, focusing on Proportional Relationships and Percentages.

Mrs. S. Clarke-Huie, Ms. B. Rudesill, and Ms. D. Cole are continuing to teach 8th Grade Math from Open Up Unit 4, our GCS district approved math curriculum, focusing on Rigid Transformations and Angle Relationships.

Ms. Clarke-Huie is in teaching Math 1 from Open Up Unit 2, our GCS district approved curriculum, focusing on Linear Equations and Systems.

Ms. Garner, our 8th Grade Math EC Teacher, continues to provide phenomenal support.

Great things continue to lie ahead!

Thank you for your support!
