PBIS PBIS

The PBIS committee at EMS works hard encouraging the three R's: being Respectful, Responsible, and Ready to learn. They dared to dream during the final quarter of the school year.

Dare to Dream

The theme for the fourth quarter has been Dare to Dream. The PBIS student ambassadors created a brief video for the whole school to watch where they interviewed a sampling of students about their dreams for the future. Then during their lunch periods, 6th and 7th grade students had the opportunity to write their dream(s) for the future on a colorful star to be added to the Dare to Dream bulletin board outside the lunchroom for all to see. The 8th grade ambassadors have been compiling student video interviews for a top-secret surprise for the last day of school.

Field Trips Field Trips

During the 4th quarter, all three of the grades levels went on exciting field trips.

West Side Market

Students visited the West Side Market as part of their sandwich making PBL. As a group, they researched regional sandwiches to help create a unique sandwich all their own. The groups created a sandwich from scratch, wrote a list of ingredients, and budgeted their creation, and presented their sandwich.

Identification of Children Who are Gifted

The W-E City School District follows eligibility criteria as prescribed by the Ohio Revised Code and the Ohio Department of Education to identify children who are gifted. The District identified students in grades kindergarten through twelve that may be gifted in one or more of these areas: superior cognitive ability, specific academic achievement, creative thinking ability, and/or the visual or performing arts. All students’ standardized test scores and other school performance measures are reviewed to determine the need for gifted screening and identification. In addition, parents, students, and/or teachers may recommend students for screening for possible identification. If you have questions, please contact Lisa George, Gifted Program.
