Hello Charger Community

November has been a month of giving thanks, honoring our veterans, and celebrating academic and technical achievements here at Pike Central High School.

Honoring Our Veterans

We were deeply honored to host a special Veterans Day program. Our very own PCHS alum and Veteran, Paul Collier, returned to speak to our students and staff. The program was a wonderful tribute, featuring moving music and Mr. Collier’s inspirational speech. We extend our sincere gratitude and thanks to Mr. Collier and to all Veterans for their service and sacrifice.

Academic and Technical Triumphs

  • CTIM Challenge Success: Congratulations to our students who competed in the CTIM (Career and Technical Information Management) Challenge at Vincennes University. The team showcased their skills and brought home an impressive 3rd place finish!

  • Manufacturing Takes a Leap: Our Charger Manufacturing students are leveling up their technical abilities! Thanks to the funding secured through the Perkin's Grant, the students received comprehensive training on their brand-new laser engraver. This advanced technology will provide them with valuable, real-world experience.

PC Broadcasting Documents Local History

Our PC Broadcasting students are hard at work on an exciting project: a documentary focusing on Pike County's crucial role in the power industry. To gather footage and historical context for their film, the class took an educational field trip to the Museum of the Coal Industry in Lynnville, Indiana. We look forward to seeing their finished production!

Celebrating Student Achievement

  • National Honor Society: We are proud to announce and congratulate our newest members of the National Honor Society! These students exemplify the highest standards of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

  • Culinary Class Wins Big: Mrs. Hunt's talented Culinary Class brought home a delicious victory! They won this year's Farm to School Apple Crunch Recipe Contest with their innovative and tasty recipe. Congratulations to the winning chefs!

We wish everyone a happy and restful Thanksgiving! 🦃

CTIM Challenge at Vincennes University

8 area companies + 120 students from 10 local high schools + STEM Challenges is bound to be a great time….and this year’s CTIM Challenge at Vincennes University Jasper didn’t disappoint! Our challenge consisted of catapulting weighted ping-pong balls at 4 targets, with the highest score going to those who hit the most targets in the fastest time.

Congrats to the JET winners!

High school helpers for the middle school musical 13 Jr.!

We had 13 (ironically) Pike Central High School students that helped immensely with our Middle School Musical this year. They did jobs ranging from open and close the curtains, write and teaching choreography, help with costumes, corralling middle school students that were waiting in the wings, and offering general comfort to nervous middle school students! These students were WONDERFUL help and our show would not have gone as well as it did without these fabulous students! Great job PCHS!

Student names are listed from the attached picture:

  • Front Row - Emiley Riker, Kylie Meyer, Kinley Blackwell, Jenna Harris, Kyleigh Miller, Abby Tyring, Izzy Tyring
  • Back Row - Tyler Collins, Cooper Hartke, Faye Barber, Callie Craig, Kasey Stevens, Mya Furman

PC Broadcasting

Our broadcasting class is working on a documentary about the role Pike County has played in the power industry. This is a topic most have never thought about, but this little county has played a HUGE role in keeping the lights on. We took a field trip to a the Museum of the Coal Industry in Lynnville and Aja Mason was amazing. He is a walking history book and made this trip incredibly entertaining. He sat down with one of our students for an interview for her documentary. It makes our heart happy to see generations discussing our county’s coal mining history. A huge Thank You to Mr. Mason for sharing his knowledge and museum with us!

👩🏻‍🍳Culinary Class

This group of young ladies from Mrs. Hunt's Culinary Class are the proud winners of this year's Farm to School Apple Crunch Recipe Contest hosted by the Indiana Grown for Schools Program. The students created their own original recipes using locally grown apples that met school nutrition guidelines. They collaborated with the school' Food Service Director and PC Cafeteria Manager to ensure each recipe was nutritious, budget-friendly and of course - delicious.

The class experimented with eight different recipes, perfecting each one through rounds of student and staff taste testing. Along the way, they learned valuable culinary skills, such as balancing wet-to-dry ingredient ratios, recipe development, and teamwork in a real-world kitchen setting. We are so proud of these young chefs for their creativity, dedication and commitment to healthy local foods
