Hello LPOSD Families,

Welcome to the second semester! I hope you’re all as excited as we are for the upcoming months. First, I want to take a moment to express my deep gratitude to our dedicated teachers. They recently wrapped up grading and provided valuable feedback to our students during our January 23 staff work day. We are truly blessed to have such a committed group of educators working in our district😇!

As the days get longer (thank you, winter solstice!🔆), we hope your families are able to enjoy more outdoor adventures in our beautiful area. Our staff is energized and ready to guide your children through the second half of the school year, and we are looking forward to seeing phenomenal academic growth in the coming months.

Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership, bwm

Dr. Becky Meyer, Superintendent

A Food For Our Children, Kinderhaven Foundation and Lake Pend Oreille School District partnership will provide affordable school meals to students from the lowest 50% of household incomes. Kinderhaven Foundation awarded a two-year grant of $186,000 per year for the 2026–2027 and 2027–2028 school years, totaling $372,000. Food For Our Children will match the grant dollar for dollar through its own resources and community outreach, bringing total funding for the program to $744,000. The Lake Pend Oreille School District will manage the program through its childhood nutrition office using the same methods as its USDA federal school nutrition program.

Welding instructor Jake Stark is guiding a group of skilled student fabricators as they learn how to leave a lasting impact on their hometown. With materials donated by the local VFW chapter, Stark's class fabricated three new metal benches for the Long Bridge. Students designed, fabricated, and added plasma-cut metal art silhouettes depicting nature and military themes to honor local veterans. The next step is powder coating, followed by installation later this year. Career technical education (CTE) provides students with real-world work experience and valuable certifications. Welding is one of Sandpoint High School’s most popular programs.

Q: Why did you decide to serve as a trustee?

"I care deeply about our schools and believe that strong communities create strong educational outcomes. I am committed to listening, collaborating, and serving our students, families, and educators as a school board trustee."

Q: As a board member, what are you looking forward to?

"I feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity to join as a trustee at a time where the board, administration and district are so healthy and doing amazing things for our students. I'm looking forward to being able to contribute to that growth and health and make a positive impact on our students and community."

Q: Tell us a little about yourself?

"I was born and raised in Missoula, Montana, and community and education have always been important to me. After spending nine years in the Seattle area building my professional career, my family moved to Sandpoint in 2013, where I found my passion for serving and connecting with our community. My family and I love to get out and enjoy all that Sandpoint has to offer, from boating and fishing to skiing. My favorite thing to do right now is watch my kids and their friends compete in their many different athletic activities."

OPEN ENROLLMENT APPLICATION

Idaho's open enrollment law allows students to apply for enrollment in a public school outside their designated attendance area or school district. Open enrollment applications will be accepted at any time throughout the year. However, applications submitted by Feb. 1 may receive first consideration for enrollment in the indicated grade. Planning to attend the school in your designated zone? If so, there is no need to complete the open enrollment application.
