Week 33

Guiding Principles
Everybody's Time is Valuable
We’ve seen an increase in tardies and late pick-ups, and we need your support. Arriving at school on time and being picked up on time are essential to your child’s success.
When students arrive late, they miss important instruction and start their day feeling rushed. Late pick-ups can also cause stress and uncertainty for students at the end of the day. Just as importantly, these habits send a message. Children learn from what we model, and punctuality is a life skill that shapes responsibility, reliability, and future success.
Please help us reinforce these important habits by ensuring your child arrives on time each morning and is picked up promptly each day. Thank you for your partnership and commitment to your child’s success.
Testing Season
While our TK, Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade students continue working hard to master grade-level standards in preparation for promotion, our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students are preparing for and taking the SBA (state assessment).
This test is an important opportunity for students to show what they have learned throughout the year. It helps us understand their progress and ensures they are on track for future success. Your support at home plays a critical role in helping them do their best.
Please help your child by:
- Ensuring they get a good night’s sleep
- Making sure they arrive at school on time each day
- Encouraging a positive mindset and reminding them to simply do their best
We also remind students that the SBA is not a race. Taking their time, reading carefully, and putting in their best effort on each question will help them succeed.
Thank you for partnering with us to support your child during this important time.
Daily Prizes!
Ticket
For students who are testing, if they arrive late, they will not be allowed to test that day. This policy is in place to ensure that students who arrive on time have an optimal testing environment. When students arrive late, they are often rushed, need time to compose themselves, and may require directions to be repeated. This can disrupt the flow of the class and cause unnecessary distractions.
Our students have been working hard all year, and they deserve to test in the best possible environment. To support this, students who arrive late will be sent to a 2nd grade classroom for the morning while their peers are testing.
Parents, please help us by making sure your students arrive by the tardy bell (8:00 a.m.) so they are ready to begin at 8:05 a.m.
Each day, teachers will distribute a testing ticket to students who arrive on time. Students will complete the ticket and turn it in at the end of the testing session. Teachers will then submit the tickets to Mrs. Hoffer when they return their testing materials.
If all four checks are marked, the tickets will be entered into a daily drawing. At approximately 2:15 p.m. each testing day, Mrs. Hoffer will draw and announce the winners. Selected students will be invited to the coordinator’s office to receive a prize. They may choose between a meal card to Panda Express or a kids’ meal from Raising Cane’s.
Individual: Attendance Incentive
15 Days: All Students
For the next 15 days, students will participate in a bonus attendance incentive for SBA.
All students who arrive at school on time and stay for the entire day for all 15 days will be entered into a drawing to select a gift from “Multnomah’s Attendance Toy Box.” Prizes include cool LEGO sets, Pokémon toys, and other items students have said they would love to choose from. Check out the images below. Show it to your child to remind them. Zero Tardies. Zero Absences. Zero Early Outs. ALL STUDENTS, testing or not.
Week 1: April 27 – May 1
Week 2: May 4 – May 8
Week 3: May 11 – May 15
Cool Prizes!
Class: Collective Attendance Incentive
Every time all the students show up in class, the teacher will place a body part on Mr. Potato Head. Once Mr. Potato Head resembles himself, teacher will turn in the chart to earn 30 minutes of play time in the Game Room. You can help your child earn some classroom community building time by sending them to school! Make doctor appointments after school. School dismisses at 2:28 daily and 1:28 on Tuesday.
