Message from Principal Fernandes
Dear Pioneer Families,
6th Grade Outdoor School – Session One a Success!
We just wrapped up our first session of 6th Grade Outdoor School at Camp Colman, and it was an incredible experience! Students engaged in hands-on learning like orienteering, beach exploration, squid dissection, and team-building activities that fostered independence, problem-solving, and connection. We’re so proud of our campers and grateful to our amazing staff and volunteers who made it possible. Session two kicks off next week, and we can’t wait for the next group of 6th graders to enjoy this memorable adventure!
Testing Reminder – Begins May 13
State testing begins the week of May 13. Please help your child prepare by ensuring they get plenty of rest, eat a nutritious breakfast, and arrive at school on time. Thank you for your support in setting students up for success!

Science Class Updates!
As we head into the last quarter of the year, science classes are continuing to learn about the world around us and how it works.
Mr. Byrd’s 6th grade classes are working on Traits and Reproduction. We are studying Darwin's Bark spiders to find out why some offspring have high or low silk flexibility.
Mrs. Basinger’s 6th grade classes are working on Ocean, Atmosphere, and Climate where students are discovering how the uneven heating of the earth causes different climates on earth.
7th grade science classes are happy to welcome back Mrs. Yuckert. 7th grade students have finished their Chemistry unit, learning about atomic structure, valence electrons, chemical bonding, and the periodic table of elements.
Mrs. Pilon’s 7th grade classes are working on populations and resources.
8th grade science Mrs. Mateus’ class finished the Magnetic Force unit where they made electromagnets. Now they are working on Force and motion.
Ms. Ripp’s 8th grade classes are learning about Natural Selection, where they used microscopes to look at cheek cells.
