Birch Meadow Update
May 25th, 2026
Attendance
With just 19 days remaining in the school year, we’re focused on making each day meaningful and productive. Student attendance continues to play an important role in that success! Our school currently has an impressive 97.5% attendance rate. Of the 2.5% of absences, 2.1% are considered chronic absenteeism, which means a student has missed 18 or more days of school throughout the year — about 10% of the school year.
We encourage every Birchie Bear to be in school and ON TIME for these final 19 days. Let’s finish the year strong and see how many days of perfect attendance we can achieve together!

May is National Bike Safety Month
Bike riding is a wonderful way to spend time outdoors and get exercise. However, sometimes accidents happen, and they can be serious. Head injuries occur in about 15% of childhood bicycle-related crashes. To reduce the chance of serious injury, make sure your child wears a bike helmet every time they ride.
Bike Safety Tips:
1. Wear a Properly Fitted Helmet
- Helmets should cover the forehead, and the straps must be fastened to be effective.
- There should be little movement when moving the head from side to side.
- The side straps should come to a point below the ears, forming a ‘Y’ shape.
- Never wear a hat under a helmet.
2. Maintain Equipment
- Replace any helmet that is damaged or has been involved in a crash.
- Avoid used helmets. They could be unsafe if they were in a previous accident, have missing parts, or do not meet current safety standards.
- Confirm that the bike is the right size; a frame that is too large or too small is difficult to control.
3. Be Alert and Visible
- Stay Focused: Don’t use headphones or iPhones while riding.
- See and Be Seen: Use brightly colored clothing or reflective gear.
Lost and Found
Please check out the Lost and Found on the stage in the cafeteria. Any items remaining on the last day of school will be donated.
The School Committee has approved JUNE 22nd to be the LAST DAY OF SCHOOL. Dismissal will be at 11:00. No lunches will be served.
