Highland Families,
Thank you so much for taking time to be a part of your child’s conference last week! It’s so good to connect once we are this far in the school year to review progress and make plans!
Please join me in welcoming our newest Highland staff member, Ms. Therese Huri, joining us as our new Attendance Office Professional. Therese comes to us with a rich background serving students and families at the YMCA where she served as a preschool teacher and other roles, and in the mortgage and insurance industries. Therese can be reached at 425.335.1586, and at therese_huri@lkstevens.wednet.edu and at hlattendance@lkstevens.wednet.edu. She is happy to be at Highland, and ready to serve your family!
Did you know that our school counselor, Mr. Hedges, teaches regular lessons in your child’s classroom? These topics include:
Bully Prevention and Bystander Training (K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th)

Dear Highland Families,
HIGHLAND ROCKS!
February—and the start of March—have been filled with wonderful family connections through events like Lemonade Wars, levy rallies, and parent-teacher conferences. THANK YOU to our incredible community for passing the recent levy and for continuing to show up for our students by attending conferences, volunteering, and joining school events. Your support and partnership make a meaningful difference for our students, staff, and programs. I am so grateful for the trust you place in our schools and for your ongoing commitment to our kids!
As we start the last semester of this school year, I also want to highlight the importance of regular attendance. Being at school all day, every day helps students stay connected to learning, build strong relationships, and develop important routines. Even arriving late or leaving early can make it harder for students to keep up.
Families can help by establishing consistent bedtime and morning routines, scheduling appointments outside school hours when possible, and communicating with the school if challenges arise. Working together, we can ensure every student has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive each day.
Thank you for partnering with us!Go Hornets!

Math Minute with Mrs. Abels
Ways to support your child’s math learning at home.
Play Games!
Games are fun and motivating. Games also give students opportunities to practice foundational numbers concepts such as counting, one to one correspondence, comparisons, place value, patterns and math facts.
Here are some examples of games that you can play.
Monopoly or Life - have your child be the banker..
Racko - this game works on ordering numbers from least to greatest.
Play card games. Cribbage is a favorite.
Candyland and Chutes and Ladders both work on one on one correspondence and counting on.
And a personal favorite - Farkle. This game lends to naturally using mental math to add 50’s and 100’s and it is just super fun!
There are so many games to choose from, the benefit comes from making math fun (they won’t even notice that they are doing any math) and the time that you get to spend together!
Make it fun, keep it light - find the joy in numbers! All of this practice will help your child on their journey to having good number sense, which in turn helps them be the best mathematicians that they can be.
Remember - Math is Fun!!
