Nonfiction Reading
Getting Started
Today is the best day to start a unit about the whole world!
Do you want to soar into outer space, swim with sharks, jam with rock bands, play a sport with a a pro athlete? If you don't believe me, let me show you the magic!
Today I want to teach you that when reading nonfiction or books about real life, readers start learning about a topic even before they read page 1. When they do sneak a peek, readers are already learning stuff about their topic.
Let's read the title, look at the cover, and start learning about our topic!
When we learn some new information about monkeys, lets put our thumb on our knee! Picture walk...Share with your buddy what you have learned so far. You have learned so much even before reading page 1! Let look at the details in the photographs.
I like how you used the information from the title and moved your eyes around the picture to learn about more that just one thing. You try it!
Let's peek at another page or two to see what else we can learn before we even start reading the words.
Title Page!!!!
Let's study a page and say all that we are learning about monkeys. Turn and Talk!
Think about how you looked at the page!
You did more than take a quick peek! You moved around the page. Every time you read, it will help you become super smart about lots of topics. You are going to learn lots of ways to get super smart about the world. I am going to start this chart .
