Roy J. SmithMiddle SchoolHARD WORK PAYS OFF!

Week of March 18th

Good Afternoon Smith Parents/Guardians,

I hope that all of our Leopards have had a fun and safe Spring Break! We have a lot of information in this weeks newsletter.

We get to start our newsletter out with a lot of well deserved kudos to staff and students:

Congratulations to Ms. Cox and our Orchestra students!! They competed in their UIL Competition before Spring Break and they scored a 1 in both concert and sight reading. This gives them the highest possible rating of Superior!!

Congratulations to Mr. Brigham, Ms. Morris, and all of our Leopard Band students. Roy J. Smith Middle School took two bands to contest and both bands received ratings of 1 in both concert and sight reading earning them the Sweepstakes trophy!!

Congratulations to Coach Angel Whitaker for being named the 2023-24 Roy J. Smith Middle School Teacher of the Year!! Coach Whitaker is a true professional both in the classroom and on the court. She a great teacher, coach, and mentor to our Leopard students.

Last (but definitely not least), congratulations to our STAFF for their win in the Staff vs. Student Basketball game right before Spring Break! The game was exciting and it was great to see staff and students having so much fun!

Report Cards Friday, March 22nd

This Friday, March 22nd, the 3rd 9-weeks report card will be sent home. Please sit down with your Leopard and review their academic progress. This is a great time to help them see what grades they will need to make during the last 9-week period to accomplish their academic goals for the year.

If you have any questions concerning your Leopards academic performance, please feel free to email their teacher to set up a conference.

HOW TO PLAY

· Pick up a BINGO card from the library. (Write your name on it and keep it in a safe place. If you lose it, you will have to start over with a new card.)

· Complete the challenge in any four squares in a row, column, diagonal, or four corners on the card to earn a BINGO.

· You must write the title of the book you read in the appropriate square. (It must be a book you are currently reading. Books read prior to the start of this challenge will not count)

· After completing each square, return to the library to answer some questions about the book and get a stamp from library staff for the square to count.

· After each BINGO, you must turn in the card and get a new one.

· Each BINGO earns a prize. You can earn as many BINGOS as you want.

· Each book will only count for one square and cannot be used again by the same player on any other cards.

· The 10 students with the most BINGOS by April 12th will be eligible for the GRAND PRIZE: a field trip to the North Texas Teen Book Festival on April 27th. Check out the link for details.

Required Shots for Next Year 7th Graders

Parents/Guardians of Upcoming 7th grade students:

This is a reminder to get your future 7th grader vaccinated to help prevent the busy back to school rush. This is to include any other vaccines that are reported as missing during the year. State law requires one dose of the meningococcal vaccine (MCV4) and one dose of the tetanus-diphtheria-acellular pertussis(TDAP) for your student to start and/or enroll in school. Please take care of this as soon as possible as clinics tend to run out of doses as it gets closer to the start of school. If you have any questions or are not sure if your student is up to date, please call the clinic at 254-336-1074 or 1075. Thanks!
