Message from Principal Montour
Dear Wildcat Families,
As you may know, setting clear expectations with our students is foundational to setting them up for success here at West.
You can find all of our student expectations and policies outlined in the student handbook above. I wanted to take a moment to highlight some of our bigger policies so you can support on your end at home:
Student Electronic Device Policy
In accordance with the new Wisconsin Schools Cellphone Ban, students will not be allowed to have their phones out during class. Each teacher will have a “cellphone caddy” on their desk, and students will be required to turn their phones into the caddy as they enter the classroom.
This practice is not new at Oshkosh West and has been used in several of the departments over the past two years with success.
This may look different in some areas of the building, such as in Physical Education, where students will keep their phones locked in their PE lockers.
Students with documented medical needs who require the use of their phone will be allowed to keep their phones in their backpacks.
Closed Campus Policy
Students who leave the school campus during class time without permission from a parent will not be allowed to re-enter the building. (This does not include during open campus lunch or students with an approved open hour).
If a student needs to leave for an appointment, please call the attendance office prior to the student leaving.
Late Work and Reassessment Policies
Please encourage your students to familiarize themselves with the late work and reassessment policies for each of their classes as many of these have changed over the summer. The policies can be found in Canvas.

Attendance Information and Procedures
Appointments/leaving building options:
- Infinite Campus (IC) Parent Portal - You can submit preplanned absence request online!
- In IC go under More > Absence Request.
- Please make sure to fill out all the fields with your information so we can accurately mark your student's attendance.
- Please allow us a minimum of 1 hour notice if your student needs to leave the building early so we have time to locate your student.
- In IC go under More > Absence Request.
- Send note with student - should be brought to Student Services before appointment to get a pass.
- Call in advance - If leaving voicemail, please let us know student’s name, reason for leaving and from which door you will pick student up. Call (920) 424-4090 x4 or (920) 424-4070.
- Email - you are welcome to email us for excused absences. Please email kelsey.gates@oshkosh.k12.wi.us and beth.held@oshkosh.k12.wi.us.
Note - we are often busy on phones or helping students, so if it’s a last minute request, a call is probably the best option. We check voicemails often.
Student Services will write a pass for the student to leave and will have it delivered to the student during one of the classes before the time they are to leave. Students can leave out of Door 38 (Eagle St. in front by flagpole) or Door 24 (gym doors) ONLY, please let us know which door to mark on the pass. The student must sign out on the kiosk at the specified door and can leave the building.
If your student is returning from an appointment, or arriving late, they MUST sign in at either door on the kiosk so we can update attendance. They can return through either Door 24 and Door 38.
* If there is an appointment that comes up with short notice, please let us know ASAP, it sometimes takes a bit to locate students and get them a pass to leave.
