Cohasset High School Newsletter
News and Happenings at Cohasset High School
December 19, 2025
Dear Families,
This will be the final newsletter of 2025! We have much to be thankful for and much more still to do, but I hope that the two weeks gives you and your families some well deserved rest and renewal as we move into the long winter stretch.
Your students work hard . . . in the classrooms, on the stage, and on the field and all of their successes become our collective successes. Enjoy the moments, and remember the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson.
Write it on your heart
that every day is the best day in the year.
He is rich who owns the day, and no one owns the day
who allows it to be invaded with fret and anxiety.
Finish every day and be done with it.
You have done what you could.
Some blunders and absurdities, no doubt crept in.
Forget them as soon as you can, tomorrow is a new day;
begin it well and serenely, with too high a spirit
to be cumbered with your old nonsense.
This new day is too dear,
with its hopes and invitations,
to waste a moment on the yesterdays.
― Ralph Waldo Emerson, Collected Poems and Translations
Have a wonderful and safe holiday season and new year.
Sincerely,
Brian T. Scott
Principal

Cohasset Middle and High School Accepted into the MSBA CORE Program
Dear Cohasset Community:
At Wednesday night’s School Committee meeting, Cohasset’s Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Sarah Shannon, announced that the Massachusetts School Building Authority (“MSBA”) has voted to invite the Town of Cohasset into the eligibility phase of its “CORE” program, in connection with our Middle-High School facility. The MSBA’s CORE program is a competitive state grant program that helps municipalities fund major school renovation and construction projects. This recent invitation for our district to participate in the eligibility phase of the process marks the culmination of six years of work, including multiple site visits and numerous application evaluations by the MSBA, and an independent feasibility study commissioned by the town.
Cohasset’s invitation to participate in this highly competitive grant program is an enormous opportunity for Cohasset to reimagine how our Middle High School, the town’s largest public asset, can best serve the modern needs of its students, staff, and the Cohasset community at-large.
This is still the beginning of a lengthy, detail oriented, and strictly regimented process that involves community input, collaboration, and town meeting votes. As we move through the initial phases of this program, which are governed by the MSBA, we will be forming a school building committee that will provide regular updates and ample opportunities for resident participation, well before any decisions are made or votes are held at any future town meetings.
This is the beginning of a very exciting time for Cohasset; one that will unite us in a critical discourse that will ultimately shape the future of our community’s most important pursuit: the education of our future generations.
Onward and Upward,
Your School Committee
Faculty Email Over Break
As part of our district’s ongoing commitment to wellness and wellbeing, our Wellness & Wellbeing Committee is supporting a true break for staff over the winter vacation. We are encouraging teachers to fully disconnect from work so they can rest and return refreshed—just as we hope our students will. In the event that a teacher does schedule some work over the break, it is expected that they will also be in communication if needed regarding questions about the assignment.
For families, this means that emails sent to teachers during the break may not receive a response until January 5. If an urgent issue arises during this time, families are encouraged to email me directly at sshannon@cohassetk12.org. I will be working over the break (excluding holidays) and will ensure that any urgent concerns are addressed.
Our teachers work incredibly hard throughout the school year, often well beyond the school day. We hope this two-week pause supports their health, balance, and overall wellbeing.
Communications Survey
As part of our district’s strategic planning work, our Communications Committee is seeking feedback from families through a brief communication survey. Your input will help us better understand what’s working, where we can improve, and how we can strengthen communication between the district and our school community.
The survey is short, anonymous, and incredibly valuable. We encourage all families to participate and share their perspectives.
Thank you for helping us continue to grow and improve together.
