Kia ora e te Woodleigh whanau

Kia ora e te Woodleigh whānau, welcome to our pānui for the first week of Term three. It is great to have the Woodleigh team back ready for another busy term! We hope you all had a nice break with your own whanau over the term break. We have already got straight into our mahi/work with lots of cross country training, visits to the supermarket as part of ‘food for thought’ unit, inter-school sports semi finals, music with Mrs Aiello and of course lots of wonderful learning in class - whew, and only week one!

This term is 10 weeks long, finishing on the 25 September. A reminder that we have a Teacher only day on the 4th September - this is our last TOD for year and our last for our kaiako around the new maths curriculum.

Our topic for this term in the Kowhai and Kahikatea teams is ‘I nga wa o mua’ - In time past’ with the Kahikatea team looking at Ancient Egypt times and the Kowhai team focussing on the Stone age and the Dinosaur age. Our Totara team are beginning their bi-annual ‘Market to market unit’ that our Totara learners are extremely excited about!

Our school goal focus for this term is ‘Ringa Takohanga - for our Woodleigh akonga to be reliable, responsible, self managing, using their initiative and to be a Woodleigh role model.

Nga mihi whanau

Mr O and the Woodleigh team.

New Perimeter Fencing – Keeping Our Tamariki Safe

As part of our ongoing commitment to keeping our akonga safe, Woodleigh School will soon begin a Ministry of Education-funded fencing project around our school perimeter. This has been in planning for several months and is fully supported by the Woodleigh School Board.

The new fencing (mostly 1.8m aluminium, with some wooden sections to fit our existing aesthetic) will help ensure our tamariki are safe and secure within the school grounds during school hours.

Importantly, the school will still be open as a community space outside of school hours, on weekends, and during the holidays - that won't change.

We know some of you may have questions about how this looks and feels for our wider community, and we welcome that kōrero. Please feel free to reach out to the Woodleigh Board with any questions at bot@woodleigh.school.nz.

Work is expected to begin around August/September and be completed by October.

Ngā mihi nui,
Woodleigh School Board

This week we had our Football and Netball team make it to the New Plymouth Primary Schools, Division 1, semi finals. Our football team played against Fitzroy School on Wednesday at Fitzroy school. The team played really well with lots of good shots on goal, unfortunately the end result was 7 - 0 to Fitzroy. Congratulations to our New Plymouth school cousins.

Our Division 1 Netball A team played their semi final against Puketapu at Puketapu school yesterday. The team was well matched and played their socks off! The result was 23 - 9 to Woodleigh, tino pai team! They are off to the NPPA/Whiria interschool finals on the 7 August.

A big thanks to both Fitzroy School and Puketapu school for hosting our teams for these semi finals. Nga mihi te aroha.

A massive thanks to all whanau for getting your child(ren) to school each day. We are aware that there are many flu and colds going round at the moment. Our goal from our ‘attendance management plan’ for 2026 is to have at least 74% of our akonga attending ‘regularly’ over the entire year. At the end of term 1 we had 71% of our akonga (attend 90% of the time) - which is close to our target. We hope to achieve our target this term.

We are bringing in a new incentive for Term 3 - the ‘90’s club’! At the end of this term, any akonga who have been at school for 90% (or more) of the time will go in the draw to have morning tea with Mr Ogle. We will draw out 3 lucky winners from each team. We will do the draw at our last assembly of the term.
