Dear PCK Families,

For the final newsletter of the 2025-26 school year, we want to celebrate the incredible accomplishments of both our students and staff. Throughout the year, our school community works toward a shared goal: continuous growth, meaningful learning, and reaching new heights together. Year after year, that partnership between dedicated educators and hardworking students leads to impressive results, but this year’s progress stands apart from anything we have seen before.

Pictured below is our math and reading MAP testing data from the 2022-23 and 2025-26 school years. Each dot represents a K-8 classroom at our school. Because MAP testing is adaptive, it provides a strong indicator of how well students are retaining and responding to the instruction they receive. The 2022-23 school year was especially significant, as PCK was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School by the Department of Education. As the data shows, our 2025-26 results have surpassed even those outstanding benchmarks.

To put the above graphs into perspective, the 50th percentile represents the average classroom in the United States for annual growth and achievement. That means PCK students are, on average, learning at nearly twice the rate of the typical student in a single school year. Results like these are exceptionally rare and speak not only to academic excellence, but also to the persistence, commitment, and collaboration shown by our students and staff every day.

Data like this reaffirms what we witness in our building daily: our students are thriving, our approach is working, and we are preparing children for prolonged success well beyond their years at PCK. Thank you for your continued trust and partnership in supporting the holistic education of your students.

Please join us in celebrating the remarkable success of these students and the dedication of our staff to guide them in reaching these heights. Have a great summer, and we will see you in August for another successful year of learning!

Warmly,

Dr. Leanne Weyman, School Director

Breanna Warburton, Academic Director

Stephanie Harper, Academic Director

This Monday, our school celebrated our annual Read-a-Thon! From the moment students walk through the doors until the end of the school day, they are immersed in literature and surrounded by guest readers. Readers included teachers from various grade levels, classmates, and parent volunteers, giving students countless opportunities to enjoy and experience a wide variety of stories throughout the day at PCK.

Celebrating reading reinforces the idea that reading is not only important, but also enjoyable. Students came to school in their pajamas, welcomed special guests into their classrooms, and explored the genres that sparked their interests. These experiences help create positive memories and meaningful connections to reading that can inspire a lifelong love of books.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our Read-a-Thon and helped make it such a fun and memorable academic celebration!

For the first time since 2023, our Athletic Department invited coaches and staff members to submit nominations for the PCK Athlete of the Year Award. This year’s recipients are Ben Cardoso and Eily Hennessy.

Both Ben and Eily competed in multiple sports throughout the year and consistently demonstrated outstanding leadership on the field and in the classroom. If you would like to read their nominations, they are included below.

Please join us in congratulating Ben and Eily on their well-deserved achievement!

Ben Cardoso

I would like to nominate Ben Cardoso for the 2026 PCK Athlete of the Year award. Ben is a model student who consistently demonstrates respect, responsibility, and integrity. He completes his work diligently and takes ownership of his learning by advocating for himself and asking thoughtful, polite questions to ensure understanding. Ben is calm, kind, and well-mannered in all settings. In addition to his strong character in the classroom, I have seen him at many PCK sporting events where he stands out as a hardworking, dedicated athlete. He is a true team player who leads by example through his effort, sportsmanship, and positive attitude. Ben represents the very best of what it means to be a PCK athlete (and PCK student).

Eily Hennessy

I would like to nominate Eily Hennessy for the 2026 PCK Athlete of the Year award. Eily is a kind, respectful, and hardworking student who consistently demonstrates strong character both in and out of the classroom. She shows a genuine “heart of gold” through her kindness toward others and her positive attitude. Eily approaches her schoolwork with dedication and care, always putting forth her best effort. I have also seen her at many PCK sporting events, where she stands out as a hardworking and supportive teammate. She leads by example through her effort, sportsmanship, and quiet determination, making her a valued member of any team she is part of.

Last week, our 5th grade students proudly presented their science experiments at our annual Science Fair! Over the course of several weeks, students designed and prepared their projects while deepening their understanding of the scientific method through hands-on investigation and experimentation. Their projects explored concepts across three scientific domains: Physical Science, Life Science, and Earth & Space Science.

In addition to conducting their experiments, students also strengthened their visual communication and presentation skills as they shared their research, methodology, and results with judges and attendees during the fair.

This week our 3rd grade parents were dazzled by their students at our annual Author’s Picnic. Every year parents come to spend time with their student and review all of the writing pieces they’ve compiled over the course of the school year. Students are able to showcase their creativity, storytelling, and progress throughout the portfolio of writing they put together over an entire school year.

Not only is this a great way for students to showcase their work, but it also gives parents a brand new perspective on the growth of their student firsthand. Thank you to all of our parents who came to hear their student’s writing and show their appreciation for the hard work they put in.

Please remember that if you are considering a change of schools for the 2026-27 school year, complete our Intent to Return Form. This form helps us prepare for record transfers to your child’s new school, as well as other administrative steps required during the transition.

Please note that submitting this form does not constitute an official withdrawal from PCK. If your plans change and you decide to remain at PCK, completing the form will not affect your child’s enrollment status. Its purpose is simply to support a timely and smooth transition, should one be needed.

Families with students currently in 8th grade who will be transitioning to high school do not need to complete this form.

If you have already filled out this form, you do not need to fill it out again.

For the final Board of Directors meeting of the school year, Heather Chapman, PCK Finance Director, presented to the Board the final budget for the 2025-26 school year and the adopted budget for the 2026-27 school year. The budgets were approved. There will be a slight increase to school fees next year for most grades mainly due to increases for curricular materials and the cost of supplies.

The Board also heard from Foundation President Pam Whitehorn, who provided an update on the Foundation’s fundraising efforts throughout the year. In total, the Foundation raised approximately $140,000 for PCK through major events such as the Fund Run and Palooza. Of those funds, just over $30,000 was distributed through teacher and school grant requests, with the remaining funds reserved for future needs and opportunities.

Finally, Dr. Weyman presented her monthly Director’s Report, which included legislative updates from the Colorado League of Charter Schools, highlights from professional development opportunities completed by PCK staff throughout the school year, and information regarding upcoming policy implementation from DCSD related to HB25-1135 on Communication Devices (CDs).

DCSD has approved a policy that PCK will implement beginning in the upcoming school year. Under the policy, all CDs must be silenced and stored during the school day unless students receive explicit permission from a staff member to use them. While this policy closely aligns with PCK’s current practices, the primary change is that middle school students will no longer be permitted to carry their devices during the school day. The 2026-27 school year will serve as a pilot year for the policy, after which the Board will determine whether to pursue a waiver to opt PCK out of the requirement.

We encourage families and community members to join us at a future meeting during the upcoming school year and stay engaged with the Board of Directors!

School Tool Boxes are now available for the upcoming school year! Each box includes all the supplies your student will need, making back-to-school prep simple and convenient.

This year, boxes will be shipped directly to your home rather than delivered to the school. If you’d like to order one, please allow enough time for it to arrive before Open House on Thursday, August 6.

When placing your order, be sure to select the box for the grade level your student will be entering and not the grade they completed during the 2025-26 school year.

You can click the button below to purchase your student's School Tool Box.

Volunteer Spotlight Volunteer Spotlight

This week, we are proud to shine our Volunteer Spotlight on our incredible PCK community! Over the course of the 2025-26 school year, our volunteers generously contributed nearly 3,400 hours of service to our school.

What makes this number even more remarkable is that it doesn’t include the many hours that often go untracked. From helping with 8th grade graduation and supporting volunteer organizations to assisting in classrooms and countless other opportunities, many of you gave your time quietly and consistently throughout the year. In reality, hundreds of additional volunteer hours were likely contributed behind the scenes.

PCK families donated 3,389 hours through the 2025-26 school year
zoom_out_map Show in original size

Volunteer involvement within our school community serves an important dual purpose. First, it shows our students that they are supported not only by staff, but by parents and the greater PCK community as well. Second, it gives our volunteers a firsthand look at the incredible work happening in our school each day, offering a glimpse into the dedication, care, and effort that go into every student’s educational journey.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who volunteered throughout the 2025-26 school year, and we look forward to seeing our community show up in full force again in 2026-27!
