Glenwood
This Week's Scouting Report
Thursday, May 7, 2026
Good evening, Glenwood families,
We are cruising through May and heading into the home stretch of the school year. Over the next few weeks, our classrooms will stay very busy with learning, testing, field trips, and end-of-year celebrations. After a long and successful year, there is certainly a lot to celebrate.
This past Monday, we hosted our Glenwood Art Show, and it was a memorable experience for all. The building was filled with proud student artists and families eager to admire the incredible work displayed throughout the hallways. The event was a wonderful reflection of our students’ creativity, effort, and artistic growth throughout the year.
A special thank you goes to Mrs. Tina Nerelli for the countless hours she dedicated to planning, preparing, and beautifully displaying artwork from every student in the building. Her hard work made this event possible and ensured that every child was recognized and celebrated. We are incredibly fortunate to have her as part of our Glenwood community.
It was also wonderful to see so many families stop in the cafeteria on their way out to leave “fan mail” for our deserving teachers. The thoughtful messages spoke volumes about the strong relationships our staff builds with students and families and the lasting impact they have on our school community.
Next up is our Chorus Concert next Tuesday. We are looking forward to another special event that showcases the hard work and talents of our students, along with the dedication of our outstanding music teacher, Mrs. Coatsworth.
Be sure to check out all of the upcoming happenings below!
Best,
Josh Rehak, Principal
Happy Retirement Mrs. Galinsky
Today was a bittersweet day... we had fun celebrating our hometown team - - it was great to see so much Philly sports spirit!
Students and staff enjoyed Philly soft pretzels as a treat from our PTG - as a thank you to everyone for their perseverance and flexibility during PSSA testing!
We were also honoring our Mrs. Galinsky, since her last day will be tomorrow. She has been part of our Glenwood community for over 20 years, we are excited for her but we will miss her. We wish her all the best in her RETIREMENT!!!
Tomorrow: Wear Glenwood GREEN
Glenwood Happenings
Kindergarten News
Kindergarten students enjoyed exploring plants in our CKLA Knowledge unit. Students got their hands dirty planting seeds, dissecting plants, smelling and exploring the plant parts, and exploring all parts of their life cycle. Students learned about what plants need, and how plants help people. We watched lima beans sprout and voted on which seeds, roots, flowers, and leaves we liked to eat!
Later in May, we will have our Kindergarten Carnival. This fun event celebrates our year-long learning of cvc and tricky words! Students will play carnival games like knock the can, golf, clothespin drop, straw draw, and duck pond. These games will be filled with words we have learned to read. Lots of parent volunteers will be on hand to help with the festivities and to celebrate our wonderful Kindergarteners.
GRIT T-shirts
GRIT (Glenwood Running Intramural Team) members are encouraged to participate in Run the Lane on Saturday June 6th as a way to conclude their training. (GRIT members will receive a t-shirt.)

It’s STEM/Makerspace Time in the Library!
All students will be exploring aspects of STEM in the library.
Kindergarten through Third will be exploring challenges using library provided materials.
Fourth and Fifth Grade Families ~ Students will need to find items at home to use for their projects. Please do not go out/online and buy things. The challenge for 4th & 5th grade is to be creative when looking for materials. Repurpose, reuse, create! I will provide a pizza box for all fourth graders. Fifth graders need shoe boxes!
Let’s get building!
Join the Cereal & Kindness Chain Reaction
The Glenwood Elementary Cereal & Kindness Chain Reaction is rolling right along! We’ve stacked up an amazing 452 FULL boxes of cereal so far! But wait… our dominoes aren’t done falling yet! We still need 948 more boxes to reach our BIG goal!
Help us keep the kindness tumbling by sending in cereal boxes next week. Every box helps feed local families and keeps our chain reaction going strong! Thank you for helping us crunch hunger one box at a time!

Parent / Guardian Resources & Reminders
Spring Benchmark Assessments
Rose Tree Media students in grades K through 5 will participate in spring growth assessments throughout the month of May. These tests help to determine your child’s instructional level and measure academic growth throughout the school year. They provide teachers with additional information on student progress toward proficiency and mastery of basic skills. The test scores let teachers know where a student’s strengths are and if support might be needed in any specific area. Teachers use this information to help guide individual and group instruction in the classroom. As well, to promote student achievement in all our schools, the district uses these results to continue to improve teaching and learning. These assessments will be administered by members of the MTSS team in each elementary school as part of the regularly scheduled instructional day.
Throughout the month of May, the following assessments will be administered across various grade levels:
Kindergarten – 5th Grade
DIBELS 8 (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills--A series of short (one-minute) assessments to measure essential early literacy skills.
Kindergarten – 1st Grade
Acadience Math--A math assessment designed to measure the development of early numeracy skills.
2nd – 5th Grade
MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) Testing--A computerized, adaptive test that measures academic growth in reading and math.
Testing Dates:
Math- Tuesday, May 12th
ELA- Thursday, May 14th
