Speak: the Graphic Novel by Laurie Halse Anderson and Emily Carroll--This critically acclaimed 1999 novel on a young girls experience with aftermath of a sexual assault has found a new audience with the graphic novel version. Halse-Anderson's story comes to life with Carroll's artwork that draws the reader into Melinda's life as a silent victim struggling to find her voice.
From Twinkle with Love by Sandhya Menon--Written as journal entries, letters to famous filmmakers, text messages and emails, Twinkle Mehra takes the reader on a romantic comedy adventure with high school crushes, navigating friendships and film-making with the twin brother of her crush.
Dry by Neil & Jarrod Shusterman--Due to the drought Southern California's water supply has been cut off and suddenly there is no water anywhere. In Shusterman's bordering on reality storytelling, Alyssa and her brother have to figure out how to survive when their parents disappear. "This thriller alternates between the teens’ distinct and plausible viewpoints, occasionally supplementing with brief “snapshots” of others (a fleeing family, a news anchor) dealing with the escalating catastrophe."--Publisher's Weekly
Black Klansman by Ron Stallworth--This non-fiction title details the story of a black police officer in 1970's Colorado undercover operation in the KKK. His story will keep you enthralled as you find out how he was able to track their movements and plans through his undercover work.
American Like Me: Reflections between Cultures--This book contains a series of short essays by celebrities, authors, athletes and others sharing their experiences growing up between cultures. Sharing their varied experiences navigating the America they live in and the cultural heritage of their families, these essays explore what it means to be an American today.
