DAVIS HILL COMMUNITY UPDATE

I hope that everyone is enjoying their summer vacation so far! A couple of quick notes:

1. As many of you are aware, Mrs. Tara Slavin, our amazing School Secretary is resigning her position for a new adventure in South Carolina! Tara has been instrumental in the day-to-day operations of Davis Hill and we will miss her dearly! Please join me on behalf of Davis Hill in thanking Tara and wishing her the very best!

2. We are thrilled to have Mrs. Jessica Cappello move into the School Secretary role at Davis Hill, as she will be taking over for Tara in July. Mrs. Cappello has worked as a Para-Professional at Davis Hill for the last four years and has a strong knowledge of the DHCommunity! Please be mindful that there will be a transition process as Mrs. Cappello works to learn the various aspects of her new position.

3. The District is moving to a new messaging system starting next week. While I am excited about the new system and it's potential functionality, I also imagine that there will be a 'learning curve' while we are receiving training and working out any 'bugs'. This most likely will be my last email on the SchoolMessenger system and I will begin attempting to use the new system sometime between July 3rd-July 10th. Thank you!

4. The District is also upgrading our Website and with this update, we'll hopefully be able to integrate our Google Calendar for easier 'Upcoming Events' info. Stay tuned!

5. I'll be sending out more staffing updates over the next few weeks so please keep an eye out.

We are looking to have our DH Students take advantage of the GALE FREE LIBRARY SUMMER READING PROGRAM! See registration information on the form above to sign up and consider taking advantage of the AWESOME GALE FREE LIBRARY all summer!

*There is NO QUESTION... that summer reading and playing math games/ reviewing math facts over the summer is important to reduce natural summer regression of academic skills. Work to try to get your child(ren) to read! Keep a journal! Practice math facts! Play a board game! Anything... to help keep learning going over the summer months will be helpful. Reducing electronic use, getting outside for exercise and play and reading more are also great ways to MODEL for our kids and get involved with them! I know it's my personal challenge to myself as well!

I wanted to let our DHCommunity know that we hit our Attendance Goal of 95% Daily Attendance for the '24-'25 School Year. Being in school consistently is imperative and we are thankful for your support and partnership.

While I am working quite a bit over the summer, it is highly recommended that if you plan on visiting the office that you email me and Mrs. Slavin/ Mrs. Cappello at jay_norton@wrsd.net/ tara_slavin@wrsd.net (through July 11th)/ jessica_cappello@wrsd.net to make sure that one of us will be in the office. Tara/ Jessica do not work the full summer and I do have some vacation time coming up so it is best to email ahead of time to make sure one of us will be in.

We are excited to share a change in process that we hope will make the back-to-school season easier for everyone!

Starting this fall, the District will be providing all core classroom supplies for students at no cost to families; subsequently, there will no longer be supply lists sent home or requests for families to purchase standard classroom materials. The bottom line is that our families will not need to buy school supplies—everything required for instruction will be provided (i.e. pencils, glue sticks, notebooks).

As this is a new process, we appreciate your patience while we work out the details. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.

Kindergarten Registration is open! Please spread the word if you have any neighbors with K Eligible Students. It is helpful for planning purposes to have our incoming students registered as early as possible so please don't delay!
