Dear North Dorchester High School Families,

As the month of September ends, we want to take a moment to share some of the exciting things happening in and around our school community. I am thrilled to share that the start of the school year has been strong and positive, and we’re incredibly proud of how our students, staff, and families have come together to kick things off on such a high note.

Our students have jumped right into learning, showing curiosity, focus, and enthusiasm in classrooms across the building. There have been engaging discussions to collaborative projects, it’s clear that our school community is committed to making the most of every learning opportunity. Part of this success is due to everyone's support with the new cell phone policy. It is impressive how well our students have started to adapt, and this is thanks to you and your support at home.

Behind the scenes, our dedicated teachers have been working tirelessly to establish strong classroom routines, build meaningful relationships with students, and deliver rigorous, thoughtful instruction. Their efforts are already creating supportive and academically rich environments where students can thrive.

Our counseling team has also been hard at work, ensuring that every student has a schedule that supports both their academic goals and personal interests. We’re grateful for their dedication to helping students navigate their high school experience in a way that’s both balanced and personalized.

Outside the classroom, our student-athletes have been grinding on the field. They demonstrate determination, sportsmanship, and school pride in every practice and game. We’re proud of their commitment and the way they represent our school.

We’ve also had several exciting events this month:

  • Our Back to School Night was a huge success, with a fantastic turnout from families and students. We were especially grateful to have several community partners on hand to connect with families and provide valuable resources.

  • Our first Spirit Week of the year brought amazing energy to the school, with students and staff showing their school spirit through themed days and high participation. The week ended on a high note with an unforgettable pep rally that truly brought the school community together.

  • We’ve already welcomed several college representatives to campus as part of our ongoing college and career readiness initiatives. These visits give students valuable insight into post-secondary options and allow them to ask questions and explore their future pathways.

We are so proud of the start we’ve had and look forward to building on this momentum in the months ahead. Thank you for your continued partnership and support, it makes all the difference in creating a vibrant and connected school community.

Sincerely,

Mr. W. TJ Thompson

Principal

This year, DCPS has adopted the Standard Response Protocol in emergency events. On occasion, we may have to take action via the 5 different protocols: Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, or Shelter. This doesn’t necessarily mean imminent danger, but may mean we need the hallways clear for safety and privacy reasons. We’ll continue to learn and practice these protocols so when emergencies occur, we know how to respond calmly and effectively.
