Superintendent's Update
November 2026
Centennial School District | November 2026
Dear Centennial Colleagues, Students, Families and Community,
As we continue our Long-Range Facilities Planning process, I want to thank the community members who joined us for our October 21 Community Forum at Centennial Middle School. We appreciated the opportunity to share information about the planning process, hear your perspectives, and gather feedback that will help inform the District's long-term facilities priorities.
Over the past year, this work has brought together students, staff, community members, and the Facilities Advisory Committee to examine the District's long-term facility needs and priorities.
Our next opportunity for community engagement is a Virtual Community Forum on Monday, November 16, at 6:00 p.m. During this session, we'll share how feedback from the October forum and the Facilities Advisory Committee's work is informing the developing draft plan. Participants will also have an opportunity to ask questions, provide additional feedback, and learn about next steps.
I hope you'll join us. More information about how to participate is included in this edition of the Superintendent's Update. You can also learn more about the planning process and follow its progress on our Long-Range Facilities Planning webpage.

Update on Immigration Response Policies
On September 23, the Centennial Board of Directors adopted Policy KNA - "Immigration Enforcement on District Property," along with administrative regulations KNA-AR 1 and KNA-AR 2. The adoption of the new policy and administrative regulations brings Centennial into compliance with recent state legislation, including SB 1528, SB 1594, and HB 4079.
Policy KNA provides clarification of the steps our District will take in the event that federal immigration enforcement were to occur on a school campus or other District property. This includes:
- District staff will not provide federal immigration authorities access to District records or facilities not open to the public, nor will they confirm if a student, staff member, or volunteer is present, with the exception of a valid judicially authorized warrant, subpoena, or court order that has been verified as outlined in KNA-AR 1.
- The policy designates a staff member to serve as our District's immigration liaison, who will serve as the single point-of-contact during any in-District interactions with federal immigration authorities.
- In the event that federal authorities enter a campus or District facility for the purpose of immigration enforcement, the District will provide notification to students, parents/guardians, staff, and community-based service providers for the impacted location.
- Staff will continue to receive regular training on the District's immigration response policies and practices.
Although these policies and regulations were recently adopted, many of the practices they outline were already implemented during the 2025-26 school year as part of the District's proactive response to immigration activity in our area. We remain committed to supporting all students and families, regardless of immigration, refugee, or migrant status, and providing safe and welcoming schools for all.

Community Food Resources
There are a number of community-based food resources available for families to access as needed, including the Food for Families program at Centennial High School. This bi-monthly food pantry was created by CHS students, and does not require identification or address verification to participate. Food for Families will hold two food distributions this month, on November 11 and November 25, 4:00-5:00pm on each date.

Attendance Matters!
Student absenteeism often increases in the fall and winter months, as "no school" days, holiday travel, bad weather and illness make it challenging to maintain regular routines. However, student attendance on school days during these months is critical for learning and wellbeing. Research shows that regular attendance plays a significant role in reading proficiency, problem-solving skills, social and emotional wellness, self-regulation and high school graduation.
Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school and keep up with their routines. Here are a few simple things families can do at home to help improve their child's school attendance:
- Set a regular bedtime and morning routine, especially as children transition during the fall time change.
- If you are concerned your child may have a contagious illness, call your school or health care provider for advice. You can also check symptom charts on our website to help decide when your student should stay home from school.
- If your child seems anxious about attending school, talk to teachers, school counselors or your school principal about helping your child to feel comfortable and excited about learning.
- School conferences are also a great time to check in with your student's teacher about any attendance concerns or challenges your family is experiencing.
- Need additional support? Contact your school office for assistance.
Inclement Weather Reminders
As we move into the colder months, it's time to prepare for the possibility of inclement weather and its impact on school operations. As we look ahead, we want to share with you the procedures used by our District when inclement weather occurs in our area.
The Centennial School District maintains a preparedness plan that outlines how we monitor inclement weather and potential weather-related impacts on school operations, including our facilities as well as road safety for transportation. Depending on weather conditions, the District may need to close schools, delay the start of the school day, or dismiss students early. Snow routes for our school buses will also be used when road conditions are deemed unsafe by our Transportation Department staff.
When inclement weather causes changes such as these, we will notify our staff and families as quickly as possible using multiple methods:
- ParentSquare messaging (text, email, and app notifications). For more information about using ParentSquare, visit our website here or contact your school office.
- Centennial School District Website: www.csd28j.org
- Social Media (Facebook: CentennialSD28j / Instagram: centennial_schools)
- Flash Alert notifies local news stations. Individuals can subscribe to receive FlashAlert updates for Centennial School District here: http://www.flashalert.net/id/centennialsd.
Parents/caregivers, if your email address or phone number has changed in the last year, please contact your school office to make sure we have your up-to-date contact information. Staff, if you want to receive inclement weather text alerts through ParentSquare, please make sure we have a current cell phone number on file in your iVisions Employee Dashboard. You can also contact Christine Andregg at christine_andregg@csd28j.org to proactively check your status for ParentSquare alerts.
