Lil Steamer Families --
We are set to have our Halloween Parade next Friday, October 31 starting at 1:45 PM. I've included our Halloween Parade letter after this note.
If you do not want your child to participate in the parade, simply email me at jhoese@riverbendschools.net and we will arrange an alternative activity for your child.
If you are in need of a costume for your child for the parade (or for trick-or-treating), please let me know and we will work with you to make sure that your child has an enjoyable Halloween experience.
Warm Regards,
JAGH

The temperatures are dropping, and winter is coming! We want our students to continue enjoying fresh air and physical activity. Please keep in mind that the weather has gotten colder. We are outside in the mornings and recess still happens, even if it is colder. Please make sure that your child has the clothing that is needed to keep warm while outside. Cold weather also brings important safety considerations. Here are some key tips to help your children adjust to being outside before school and during recess as the season gets colder:
1. The Power of Layers (The "Onion" Strategy)
Layering is the most effective way to keep your child comfortable and dry, whether they are waiting for the bus or playing at recess.
Base Layer: This layer goes right against the skin. Use synthetic materials or wool to "wick" (pull) moisture (sweat) away from the body. Avoid cotton t-shirts for this layer, as cotton stays wet and makes kids cold quickly!
Middle Layer: This is the insulating layer (like a fleece, sweater, or sweatshirt) that traps heat. You can add or remove this depending on the temperature.
Outer Layer: This is the protective layer—a waterproof and windproof winter coat and snow pants—to keep the elements out.
2. Don't Forget the Extremities!
Heat is quickly lost through the head, hands, and feet. These items are non-negotiable for cold days:
Warm Hat: Essential for retaining body heat. Choose one that covers the ears completely.
Waterproof Mittens: Mittens are generally warmer than gloves because they keep fingers together, allowing them to share warmth.
Kids love to play hard, and sometimes gear gets wet!
Pack Spares: Keep an extra pair of dry socks and mittens in your child's backpack or cubby at school. Getting out of wet gear is the fastest way to prevent getting too chilled.
Label Everything: Please write your child's name clearly inside hats, mittens, and coats so lost items can easily find their way back home.

Meet the FBP/FES Family!
It is easy to learn about the teacher that your child/children have or have had. However, at FBP and FES, we are one large team. For this reason, we will introduce and give some fun information about each of our family members in our newsletter!
Registration in person is Nov 3 at the high school wrestling room.
